My recent attempted stay at the Wyndham Garden Tallahassee proved to be a deeply disappointing experience that I feel compelled to share. Upon entering the lobby, I immediately noticed red flags that should have warned me about what was to come. A distressed guest was at the front desk reporting missing expensive earbuds, and while the staff made gestures of concern, their demeanor seemed insincere at best.
The first troubling sign was a distinct mold odor permeating the lobby area. Despite this initial concern, being tired and needing to stay near the hospital, I decided to proceed with check-in, hoping the room would be better. This proved to be a mistake.
The moment I entered the room, it became clear that this property falls drastically short of acceptable standards. The same mold smell from the lobby was even stronger in the room. The conditions were shocking - the box spring appeared to have been salvaged from a dumpster, and the windows were so filthy they were practically opaque, blocking any natural light.
Realizing it would be impossible to stay in these conditions, I immediately returned to the front desk to request cancellation and a refund. The staff informed me they could only refund the deposit and directed me to Hotels.com for the main reservation refund. Adding insult to injury, I later discovered an unexplained additional charge on my account.
Perhaps the most egregious aspect of this experience is the hotel reviews were not consistent with reality.
