Watch Out For Surprise Charges!
I have booked at The Lancaster Motel twice, only stayed once. My stay in October 2024 was good. Clean and comfortable room, friendly and helpful front desk service. No real issues at all.
My last booking (I did NOT stay) was in January 2025. I booked the room via hotels.com based on my previous visit and chose pay on-site. When I arrived to check in, I was informed that there was a $100 security deposit due before I could check in. And that only Cash would be accepted for the deposit. When I questioned it, as I was not charged that in October, I was told it was a new policy. Fine. But there was no mention anywhere on their listing of this requirement. The desk person would not provide contact info for the management so I could ask them about it. I decided not to stay and was told when leaving that my card would not be charged since I declined the room. But I was charged. I emailed hotels.com who contacted the motel twice and was told both times that despite the circumstances the motel “declined to provide a refund.” I will NEVER stay at this motel again. And would recommend anyone considering it call before booking to get the full story. Or select the “reservation protection” option with hotels.com or a refundable booking option.
I will say that when I called and spoke to a representative at hotels.com they recognized the situation for what it was and provided a refund for the booking themselves. Which I appreciated very much.
