We had a 2-bedroom cottage at Makai Club, and it was not at all what we were expecting. Our particular unit had a funky smell to it. The cottages all have shutters instead of windows to help with airflow to cool them off (no A/C), but that does mean that you hear EVERYTHING that goes on around the property, from your neighbor opening a soda can, to the yowling of the feral cats, or worst of all, the incessant crowing of all the roosters from 4:00 AM onwards. So, the cottages feel less like a cottage than a very robust tent...
We chose to leave early and go to a more traditional facility with walls, windows, and a lot less crowing.
