The best places to go shopping in Gran Canaria include the island’s pedestrianised shopping streets, village markets, and modern shopping centres. From designer shoes and clothing to small handicraft stores, Gran Canaria offers a host of fantastic retailers to pick up a souvenir, buy a gift, or simply indulge yourself.
Even better, with lower import tax and VAT rates, prices of items are much less than in mainland Spain. You’ll get more bang for your buck when you shop in Gran Canaria. Triana Street, or Calle Triana in Spanish, is a pedestrianised shopping street in the old district of Triana in Las Palmas. It is considered one of the loveliest areas in Gran Canaria. On a stroll through the historical area, you can enjoy incredible shopping, sample local dishes, and admire beautiful modernist buildings. Lining the paved avenue are a medley of shops, from traditional haberdasheries and perfumeries to handicrafts and exclusive fashion outlets.
Take a break from shopping and relax at one of Triana Street's many outdoor cafes or restaurants. Be sure to turn onto one of the side streets to admire quaint boutiques and old colourful houses with their charming facades, Canarian balconies, and wooden doors.

Avenida Mesa y López is a prime shopping street in downtown Las Palmas. The tree-lined avenue features a wide variety of shopping options. You'll be spoilt for choice with options ranging from small, family-owned stores and designer boutiques to Spain's largest department store, El Corte Ingles. The street also regularly hosts art exhibits, sports displays, and kids’ activities.
There are al fresco bars and restaurants around Plaza de España, where you can have a break and enjoy the bustling vibe. Mesa y López is close to Playa de Las Canteras, so you could combine a beach day with some shopping.

Mercadillo de Teror is a market held every Sunday in the beautiful mountain town of Teror. The market takes place in Plaza Teresa de Bolívar. A visit offers a fantastic opportunity to sample local delicacies, such as Canaria’s famous cheese and the garlic-laden chorizo de Teror (Teror sausage). You can also tuck into local bread, olives, and artisan pastries.
You can find stalls selling high-quality hats, clothing, jewellery, and handicrafts. One thing to note is that many locals attend Sunday Mass at the Basílica de Nuestra Señora del Pino, located opposite Mercadillo de Teror. If you are driving there, arrive early to snag a parking space.

Santa Brigida Market

Santa Brigida Market is a lovely weekend market in the namesake village about 14 km from Las Palmas. It's a great place to shop for fresh produce among locals. There are about 15 stalls arranged around a central square. You can find fruit and veggies, local cheese, eggs, jams, bread, and pastries. There's even a wine stall where you can pick up bottles of local Monte whites.
Once you've done shopping, you can have lunch at Casa del Vino or head to the microbrewery in the park nearby. Alternatively, walk to Santa Brigida's old town and pull up a chair at one of its many quaint restaurants.

El Mirador Shopping Centre is in the village of Jinámar, around 15 minutes by car from Las Palmas. Also known as Centro Comercial El Mirador, this retail complex is the biggest on Gran Canaria. You can expect a variety of retailers, including popular Spanish clothing brands like Zara, Berska, Stradivarius, and Mango.
El Mirador Shopping Centre also hosts the biggest Primark store on the island – occupying 2 floors – and a huge Eroski hypermarket. In between your shopping spree, grab a refreshment or a bite to eat from one of the onsite cafes or restaurants. The easiest way to get to El Mirador is by car or taxi. If you want to take the bus, go to the San Telmo bus station in Las Palmas and take bus no. 59.

Centro Comercial El Muelle is a shopping centre inside Muelle de Santa Catalina in Las Palmas. The bright and medium-sized complex houses a wide range of shops as well as open-air bars and restaurants. You can shop for luxury items, shoes, clothing, watches, jewellery and perfume. There is a bowling alley and a video game arcade on the top floor.
There's a taxi stand at the shopping centre, but rates are higher due to its location inside the harbour. To save some euros, walk across to Parque Santa Catalina and hail a taxi from there.
