With fresh seafood from the Kii Peninsula, Kumano beef, and excellent vegetables, Shirahama is a must-visit for all foodies. For something new, try the dishes made using locally caught fish such as the longtooth grouper. The local sake and beer are also first-rate.
You have plenty of options to explore here, including seafood restaurants, sushi restaurants, buffets, and izakaya (traditional Japanese-style pubs). If you get tired of Japanese food (unlikely but you never know!), head to a cafÃĐ, pub, or European restaurant for something a little different. Shirahama has uniquely delicious dining experiences to offer, so it's a good idea to arrive hungry!

Youâll need to book if you want to try the kaiseki (traditional multi-course dinner) and special multi-course meals, which feature seasonal nigiri (hand-shaped sushi) and exquisite dishes made from local fish, but itâs well worth making the effort.
The fresh kutsuebi (blunt slipper lobster), wild longtooth grouper, scabbard fish, and sea bream are unforgettably tasty. This restaurant is a little pricey, but you won't regret it. And it's a great choice even if you have children. If you're visiting as a family, perhaps opt for the relatively affordable lunchtime option.
