Pension Heidi is a charming little pension run by a graceful and kind hearted couple. The rooms and amenities were basic but you can feel the place has character. All meals were delicious and we could tell they were prepared with care and love. We happened to get stuck in intense rain while on a trek and the owners called to check on us and even came to pick us up in their car. We were truly touched.
I think pensions are a better way to travel in Japan than staying in overpriced resorts. You get a better experience of the local life and the service is more personal.
Do check out Urabandai and stay at Pension Heidi if you get a chance. Cheers.
