Inflexible, even for Central America.
We had to change our reservations a few day before we arrived but couldn’t because of the hotels no change policy. We called but no answers. We messaged and they finally answered two days later. We asked for an exception. They said we had to do it through hotels.com. Hotels said we would have to ask the hotel but they couldn’t get a hold of them. Each said we had to contact the other until we missed our check in. All we wanted to do was get in later. In any event, make sure you don’t have to change your plans at all.

Great hotel with idyllic grounds
We loved Mawamba lodge, friendly staff, great location, lots of wildlife around and the hotel also organised our trips which were brilliant, boat ride and night walk, saw lots of birds, frogs, crocodile, agouti. The location and grounds are just idyllic

Amazing location, you do have to walk 10-15 minutes into town along a narrow footpath, we were fine but other guests may not want to, especially late at night, the track is dark.

Amazing wildlife around the hotel. Could hear the ocean at night. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The tours were fantastic. Will be back!

Very great food and kind staff. Hotel is about a 15 minute walk from the town which is very nice. Being at this hotel makes you feel like like you’re in a little resort.

Nous avons passé un bon séjour au mawamba lodge. Les chambres sont propres mais manque un peu de place pour ouvrir les bagages dans la chambres .les parties communes sont agréables. Le restaurant bon, bonne organisation pour les excursions avec un guide top

Séjour reposant
L'arrivée jusqu'à l'hôtel est déjà une aventure, 1h de bateau dans la rivière au top. Hôtel situé proche du village accessible à pied, personnel accueillant et serviable. La chambre est juste acceptable pour le prix un peu élevé. Attention pas de réseau mobile et wifi seulement autour de l'accueil et restaurant/piscine. Repas très bon mais prix élevé comme tout le Costa Rica Le tour en bateau à la découverte des canaux était top, le guide a partagé sa passion de la nature et des animaux. Si vous souhaitez vous couper du monde c'est le bon endroit.

Ein Ausflug in den Tortuguero National Park lohnt sich auf jeden Fall. Allerdings finde ich, dass die Hotelpreise im allgemeinen zu hoch für die Ausstattung der Resorts & Lodges ist. Die Ausflüge, die das Hotel uns angeboten hat, sind ihr Geld wert. Wir haben eine Kajak Tour im National Park gemacht und sehr viel von der Natur und den Tieren gesehen. Zudem war unser Guide wirklich spitze. Außerdem haben wir bei Nacht die Schildkröten bei der Ei-Ablage beobachtet. Sehr spannend und sehenswert.

Superb setting, lack of AC/ wifi, avg/poor service
Firstly, a lovely setting that is a hot walk into town along a dirt path or a $8 water taxi. Enjoyed a welcome juice on arrival at the dock from our transfer. Difficult to communicate via email/whatsapp/instagram with the hotel team beforehand unfortunately so didn’t manage to find out about kayaking tours. Some communication misunderstandings whilst there which led to us not having breakfast to takeaway in the morning before an external tour. The hotel offers lots of tour options which are bookable at reception once you arrive but I do like to plan in advance! Rates are slightly higher than in town but saves you a walk/taxi, I suppose. The rooms do get very hot during the daytime as do not have air conditioning but cool down at night. You can also hear most of the outdoors when you might not want to as there are nets rather than glazing in places.

What a place to stay. Free boat transfer to and from the little airfield. Really nice food and drinks. Rooms don’t have AC but are wide open and well ventilated. However those are small points compared to the entire area of the hotel and the surroundings. You walk one way to the beach, it’s full of little seating areas, pontoons and places to just enjoy the nature and surroundings. We spent evenings on a pontoon watching the sun set, afternoons in the hammock on the balcony your room has, and the hot days by the pool. Iguanas randomly wander around the place, and visited the pool on our last day. Howler monkeys occasionally swing by, and there are endless birds, one we didn’t notice was 2 meters away from us whilst we were enjoying the pontoon. We went in turtle laying season, and saw a wild turtle laying its eggs. There are boat tours, night hikes, canoe expeditions, hikes and other activities, all with endless wildlife around. Truly a wonderful place and experience.

Mawamba lodge was a beautiful property! It looks prettier in person - photos don’t do it justice! The pool was great and much needed to just cool down a little bit! The staff was very attentive and the food was honestly pretty great. The only thing is, the weather is VERY humid and there is no air conditioning anywhere so be prepared. The bugs are pretty bad, bug spray is much needed! Regardless, this was a great place to visit and I have nothing bad to say about the property!

Overall we enjoyed our stay here. Pros: the room was very clean, the amenities (especially the pool) are really great, the staff are helpful, and the landscaping is beautiful. Cons: the rooms don't have AC so it gets very hot during the day. the walls are very thin so you can hear your neighbors if they are packing loudly. The hotel is accessible by quick water taxi from tortuguero or by a 1.5 km walk on a dirt road. From la pavona, take a water taxi to tortuguero. Don't take the hotel's private transport service from la pavona which costs $30 per person. I feel like the water taxi service from tortuguero to the hotel should be provided by the hotel for free--they have the resources to do it, but they don't because they would rather nickel and dime you for everything.

This is a little gem of a place. The rooms are basic but comfortable, the foods limited but for where you are, this is not surprising. The wildlife & staff really made it. The staff where really accommodating. In a two night stay in the property's gardens we saw, lots of iguana's, tocan's, green macaw's & a howler monkey. On the beach, we saw baby leatherback turtles & on a paid trek, green turtles nesting.

Sitio recomendable para alojarse en Tortuguero. Acceso al pueblo en 15 min andando. Sin embargo, creo que es bastante necesario que pusieran aire acondicionado, ya que hace demasiado calor en las habitaciones y a veces es dificil descansar.

Lodge con pros y contras muy claros. Pros: maravilloso entorno natural, preciosos jardines, ecologismo (vimos iguanas, perezosos, monos aulladores... en la zona de su inmenso jardín). Contras: habitaciones muy justitas de tamaño y equipamiento, sin ventanas (solo mosquiteras) por lo que los ruidos externos (p. ej. monos aulladores) se oyen perfectísimamente en la madrugada (a las 04.30 exactamente). Personal: salvo excepciones, trato bastante seco; en la recepción les costaba darte información y sonreír, parecía que te hacían un favor. Similar en el restaurante.

La estancia no ha sido de mi agrado. La atención de un chico en recepción ha sido casi nula. No nos aportó ninguna información acerca de actividades que ofrece el hotel ni acerca de cómo iba a ser el proceso de recogida. Al llegar al hotel, poneros de acuerdo para la recogida a la hora de la salida porque es super importante hacerlo el día anterior porque no lo informan y es algo que se tiene que hacer con antelación. No hay aire acondicionado en las habitaciones, ni refrigerador, ni cafetera, ni microondas. De noche los insectos invaden las zonas comunes y los escarabajos negros pequeños están por todos lados, en modo exagerado. Para ir al centro tienes que caminar 15-20 minutos, y de noche es peligroso, ojito con eso. Si llueve mucho os van a cancelar las rutas en canoa y si pagaste las entradas al parque en la página del gobierno pues pierdes tu dinero, por experiencia os digo, perdí 30 dólares. Piscina agradable y tranquila. Cantidad de árboles frutales en el hotel y eso ha sido una maravilla, al igual que tener la playa al lado. Un entorno muy natural y bonito. Por la atención y otros detalles 5/10.
