This was the fourth hotel I stayed in in Sri Lanka, and unfortunately was a let down in a number of respects. My initial impression was positive as the property is large, (seemed) peaceful and has lovely views. While being checked into my room I was a bit surprised about being asked if I needed to know how to use the facilities in the room. Of course I would! The air con had no remote control and was hidden in the corner and I wouldn’t have found the controller had I not asked. The woman showing me in seemed sullen and miserable. Again, initial impressions of the room were quite good - very large and spacious with a ginormous bathroom. After that I noticed a few minor inconveniences - hardly any plug sockets, room safe didn’t work and the bedding was really uncomfortable. The sheet was too small for the bed and was fitted over a slippery mattress protector. Later that night I found myself slipping and sliding around a lot, which contributed in part to two very bad nights’ sleep. First morning I woke early to go on safari and the packed breakfast was adequate although the bread was stale and I couldn’t eat most of what was in the box as it had cakes/croissants etc. and I can’t eat anything containing dairy. After the safari I went to the pool. Very quiet and peaceful but hard to relax as there are little shaded areas and the loungers don’t have cushions and so are really uncomfortable.
