Location Awareness
Our stay at Hotel Mundial had both very good but also a somewhat negative aspect. Our room was quite clean & comfortable as well as our largest throughout our entire 18 day stay around Portugal. The rooftop bar is lovely at sunset. Hotel staff was extremely accommodating & always pleasantly willing to assist. We received a lovely unexpected welcome gift.
However, the location was both a plus & a minus. It is centrally located being just a few minutes walk to the Metro & many popular tourist attractions. Our issue was the noise at night & into the early morning in Praça Martim Moniz. While homelessness is a global issue, this location does seem to have a greater presence which does contribute to the noise level at all hours.
I feel entitled complaining about such an unfortunate issue, but being on vacation does bring an expectation of rest & relaxation.
The famous tram 28 is conveniently located just outside the hotel but again, early starts to the bells & running on the trolley tracks does exist. We were on the second floor, just above the hotel restaurant so we were also awoken by the sounds below us of dishes & the movement of heavy chairs starting at 7am.
In summary, I would recommend this hotel with a couple of conditions. I would request a room that is not facing the road/square & I would request floor 3 or above. Had our stay been longer we would have requested that change.
