10 Great Fresh Markets in Bali

Candi Kuning Market, or Pasar Bedugul, has rows of stalls selling local farm produce, such as flowers and a wide range of tropical fruits like mangosteen, bananas, tangerines and strawberries. You can also find some souvenir shops selling kitsch arts and crafts at rather affordable prices. 

The central farmer’s market is located between 2 of Bedugul’s landmarks, Beratan Lake (where you can visit the Ulun Danu Beratan lakeside temple) and Eka Karya Botanic Gardens.

Pancasari Market lies in the highland Bedugul region. You can explore a truly local shopping scene, where locals shop for fresh vegetables and fruits sourced from farms and plantations within the central Balinese highlands. 

Some of the best things to buy at Pancasari Market include mangosteen, mangoes, and strawberries. It’s also a good place to see a bit of Balinese culture through dedicated stalls selling ornate ritual items and flower offerings.

Kedonganan Fish Market is a traditional wet market where most of the fresh catches are sourced from in southern Bali. It’s about 3.6 metres north of Jimbaran Beach, with the western runway of Ngurah Rai International Airport closeby. 

As the largest fresh seafood market in Bali, you’ll find almost any type of saltwater catch, from common red snappers to rare mahi-mahis. Visit just after sunrise to see fishermen unloading their nets and weighing their catches for auction, retail and wholesale. 

Taman Sari Market is one of the very few local markets in Seminyak. Also called Pasar Taman Sari, it serves as a stopover for those looking to stock up on fresh tropical fruits at low prices. It's within easy reach of the region’s villas and resorts. It’s located near the southwestern corner of the Petitenget and Kerobokan junction. Stalls open at the break of dawn, but the market takes on a local night market vibe around sunset, with food carts selling bakso (meatball soup), grilled satay, and rice porridge.

Badung Market lies on the eastern bank of Badung River, with the Kumbasari Art Market on the other side. One of Bali’s largest traditional market on the islands, you’ll find dozens of vendors selling fresh fruits, seafood, kitchen utensils, Balinese Hindu ritual items, jewellery, and daily necessities. The market consists of a 4-storey building, with an open-air ground level area. It serves as a meeting point for farmers, consumers and retailers. Prices are usually lower than most markets on the island, and you can still bargain for a better deal.

Jimbaran Market, or Pasar Desa Adat Jimbaran, is a fresh market in the centre of Jimbaran. It’s usually crowded in the mornings with locals sourcing their daily groceries and necessities. A walk through Jimbaran Market gives you a glimpse into the island’s lifestyle and extensive variety of produce, as well as plenty of photo opportunities. Many cooking schools in Bali include a trip to this market, especially for morning sessions.

Ubud Traditional Market takes place in the centre of Ubud town, occupying the same location as the popular Ubud Art Market. Visit in the early mornings to see a lively market scene where fresh produce stalls are displayed among the regular art shops. Open spaces are occupied by vendors selling fresh vegetables, fruits, and flower offerings. 

The scene transforms into an art-filled marketplace as the day goes by, with mainstay stalls selling authentic woodcarvings and exotic paintings. Check out the peculiar shrine near the entrance – it’s often overflowing with flower offerings placed by shop owners in Ubud.

Semarapura Market is right across from Kerta Gosa Hall of Justice, a major landmark of Klungkung. The bustling scene of locals shopping for daily necessities at the different stalls is a common sight in the morning. After 7am, shops start selling souvenir items like batik fabrics and locally-made jewellery, as well as flowers and Balinese Hindu ceremonial item. The Semarapura Market has a main building with 3 floors, making it one of the largest traditional markets in the eastern Bali region.

Kuta Market, located along Jalan Raya Kuta, fills a 2-storey building with shops selling fresh goods, clothes and utensils at bargain prices. Most of the mainstay gift shops facing the street side open after 8am, so it’s best to visit around noon if you’re planning to shop for souvenirs. Kuta Market is usually crowded with local marketgoers in the early mornings. Minor traffic congestion is a regular sight at the end of this one-way street.

Sindu Market is best known among travellers as a vibrant night market in Sanur, but it actually opens before sunrise. The morning market is where local Sanur residents source their daily ingredients, from fresh fish, meats and poultry to fruits and vegetables. 

There are around 150 stalls within its main area, which is sheltered under a large warehouse-like structure. Each stall is numbered and well-organised in a modern layout, but it’s relatively traditional – bargaining is a must to score good deals at Sindu Market.
