Comparing this hotel to Hyatt Regency Sukhumvit (the only other Bangkok hotel l've stayed in), the Lebua disappoints. The Hyatt isn't perfect, but it's newer so it has a certain elegance about it. While the Sukhumvit area is more fun/lively, I didn't get as good a vibe about the Lebua hotel or surrounding area.
The aesthetics of the Lebua hotel look great, impressive enough lobby, but it's the rundown nature of the bedrooms that leave a lasting impression. The furniture feels very 90's originals. Needs an overhaul.
However, the bed is comfortable and the linen crisp and clean. View of the river is excellent.
Hot water had a mind of its own. Had to call maintenance, who quickly made it better, but still offering mercurial temperatures on a whim. Also, in the bedroom, you can hear your neighbours clearly conversing (no sound proofing).
Staff are excellent at all levels, as you'd expect of the wonderful Thai culture (which I'm in love with).
I didn't go to the bars or restaurants, so l can't comment. However, the rest of Bangkok's visitors want to - so be prepared to have to wait longer than you’d prefer, to share the few elevators with every tourist who has the Sky Bar on their bucket list. I suggest the Lebua might remedy this by providing a separate elevator for bar tourists.
