Downtown Newark
City centre Newark strikes the perfect balance between bustling business energy and unexpected cultural treasures. The Newark Museum of Art and New Jersey Performing Arts Centre offer artistic escapes between impressive office towers. Catch a hockey game at Prudential Centre or explore the rich African American and Portuguese heritage reflected in local galleries and historic buildings. Getting around is a breeze with two metro stations and Newark Penn Station connecting you to NYC in just 30 minutes. Business-focused cafés and authentic Portuguese bakeries feed the weekday crowd. While evenings are quiet, the cultural venues keep the neighborhood's pulse beating even after the office lights dim.

Ironbound District
The Ironbound District buzzes with Portuguese and Brazilian energy, from colourful shopfronts with traditional azulejo tiles to the mouthwatering aromas of pastéis de nata from family bakeries. Ferry Street pulses as the neighborhood's main artery, where visitors can browse speciality shops selling imported goods and dine at authentic eateries serving grilled sardines, francesinha sandwiches, and feijoada. Newark Penn Station connects this walkable area to the wider city, with NJ Transit buses running along Ferry Street for easy exploration. Most visitors stay in city centre Newark hotels since lodging within the district is limited. This genuine cultural enclave offers a taste of Portugal without tourist crowds.

University Heights
University Heights buzzes with the energy of campus life as students from NJIT and Rutgers-Newark fill tree-lined quads and modern buildings. You'll hear multiple languages and feel the intellectual vibe while exploring this budget-friendly area. Cultural diversity shines through authentic ethnic eateries and community events that give visitors a genuine slice of Newark's academic heart. Getting around is a breeze with three metro stations and regular bus service connecting you to city centre Newark and NYC. When hunger strikes, dig into generous portions at halal carts or Caribbean joints without breaking the bank. Budget hotels and extended-stay properties offer clean, functional rooms perfect for campus visitors and curious travellers.

Forest Hill
Step back into the Gilded Age in Forest Hill, where stately Victorian mansions line streets shaded by century-old trees. Wander through this architectural time capsule before heading to Branch Brook Park, home to America's largest cherry blossom collection. The Althea Gibson Tennis Centre offers courts for active travellers, while nearby historic sites like Mount Pleasant Cemetery reveal Newark's rich past. Local cafes and family-run eateries serve up comfort food with authentic Newark flavour. Two metro stations—Davenport Avenue and Bloomfield Avenue—make city exploration easy, while the neighborhood's peaceful streets invite leisurely strolls among the historic homes and gardens.

Newark Central Business District
Newark's Central Business District mixes corporate polish with cultural treasures, making it more than just a sea of suits. Catch world-class performances at NJPAC or cheer on teams at the Prudential Centre. Military Park offers a green escape with historic monuments, while the Newark Museum of Art showcases impressive collections just steps from office towers. Getting around couldn't be easier with Newark Penn Station connecting to NYC in just 30 minutes. Several metro stations dot the district for quick exploration. DoubleTree by Hilton Newark Penn Station
"Not the best area being right next to the station but the hotel was immaculate."
Aiden by Best Western Newark Airport
"Staff and shuttle driver was very helpful in helping us get to and from the airport"
Hampton Inn Newark Airport
"Nice staff unlike the hotel in Harrison Riverwalk. Unkind people run that hotel. Heartless, greedy, not understanding."
Newark Liberty International Airport Marriott
"The staff were really friendly, and the hotel room was really clean. I am OCD about health, so the last thing I want to see is mold or cockroaches. No bugs anywhere in my room, and our bathroom was stunningly beautiful too. Normally I wear shower shoes, but the floors were clean enough I contemplated not wearing them. Security seemed super friendly towards guests, and the AC unit worked well. Thank you for a fantastic stay!"
Courtyard by Marriott Newark Downtown
"Stayed for World Cup so location was good for public transport to game."
SpringHill Suites by Marriott Newark Liberty International
"A good property to stay with family and friends. The response time to an issue was slow but the rest all good."
Fairfield Inn & Suites Newark Liberty International Airport
"Really great place! The room was clean and the breakfast was really good"
Howard Johnson Hotel by Wyndham Newark Airport
"First the hotel is clean and good value. Although a little dated, which in the case of Newark it still has that high crime feel that was very necessary 20-30 years ago. One warning if you are planning to take transit into NYC is that it looks very close to a bus stop, but it is not. The stop is on the other side of a 10 lane highway with no footpath across. For those that are brave you can walk along the shoulder of the overpass there and then cross a 4 lane road to get there. I consider this mistake to be on me, and don't want to fault the hotel for it. An easier option is to take the hotel/parking shuttle to the airport and then there is decent transit from there. Or you can drive across the overpass and pay to park at the airport for the day."

"Clean, quite, secure, nice staff"
