Our stay at Uga Ulagalla was by far the highlight of our trip to Sri Lanka. Far from the busy roads and honking buses this multi acre property was an oasis. Bungalows are situated all over the property, some with private plunge pools. Rooms are large with an entry way, living room, dressing area, oversized bathroom and bedroom. The food was delicious with a variety of entrees between Western and Sri Lankan. The Sri Lankan food was outstanding.
Arrival greeting and check-in is friendly, relaxing and low key. You are met in the lobby area of a beautifully restored old Dutch home. The restaurant is upstairs on the second floor - completely open to the surrounding views.
Transportation around the large property is by golf cart or bicycles. Every bungalow is provided the requested number of bicycles. Our children happily explored the grounds at their leisure.
There are multiple activities available to you and your family from nature walks to kayaking.
Cost: it is not an inexpensive place to stay. Good service and attention will cost you more. However, on the subject of meals: meals are costly (lunch and dinner), and prices rival a fine dining restaurant in San Francisco or New York (US$ 28-35/entree), but don't quite match the quality for that price. A little steep for the middle of Sri Lanka.
