Learn more about Southwest Harbor
Forget the crowds of Bar Harbour – this quiet corner of Mount Desert Island offers all the beauty with none of the bustle. Acadia National Park's less-traveled trails like Flying Mountain reward hikers with harbour views that feel earned. The Wonderland Trail leads through spruce forests to tide pools teeming with starfish and sea urchins. Ship Harbour Nature Trail loops through classic Maine landscapes – granite, spruce, and sparkling sea. After kayaking alongside curious seals, return to town where lobster rolls are served without pretension at dockside picnic tables. Hawthorn Extended Stay by Wyndham Ellsworth / Bar Harbor
"We just really loved it"
Acadia Ocean View Hotel
"From a picture, we thought we would be closer to the water. There was a little view of it. This would be a great place for families with children in the warmer months, pool, and lots of room to run around or ride bikes. This is an older hotel that has been updated. We wanted to Uber into Bar Harbor but no Ubers were in the area. Luckily we were able to find parking both evenings."
Comfort Inn Ellsworth - Bar Harbor
"The Manager and staff were very kind and helpful. The guests were happy and friendly. Great location, close to everything."
Seasider Motel
"We did a lot of walking while we were here. It took us about 15 minutes to walk to all the restaurants and shopping. Great location for us. Staff were great. We felt like it was a great value for what we received. We also enjoyed the carry and go breakfast. We ended up using them as snacks after our many hikes."
Holiday Inn Resort Bar Harbor - Acadia Natl Park by IHG
"All was wonderful! Very clean room, staff was friendly. View was lovely. Would definitely stay again! Even was able to see a couple of seals out in the water in front of the resort."
Wonder View Inn - Bar Harbor Collection
"My husband and I loved the Blue Nose Inn lobby. On cold, rainy days we would go in and grab some hot chocolate and work on the jigsaw puzzle in the sitting area. It was really beautiful."
The Pathmaker Hotel
"Great hotel that is convenient to Acadia National Park and all the amenities of Bar Harbor. Loved the onsite restaurant for breakfast and dinner."
Colonial Inn Ellsworth
"Overall, we were very pleased with the property. The bathroom looked brand-new and everything was very clean and the staff was pleasant. Our room was quiet. The breakfast consisted of boxed cereal, individually wrapped pastries, etc. As for protein, peanut butter was available to put on toast, they had a quality brand yogurt and on my last day I noticed that there was a microwaveable burrito. Not a particularly appetizing selection. Think of the breakfast as grab-and-go kind of snacks. I could not give the property a higher rank because of this."
Stone Park
"Super clean, cozy and perfect!"

Visitors can enjoy exploring key landmarks, historical sites and cultural attractions, including the port, nature reserves, mountain vistas, romantic spots, islands, desert landscapes, seafood venues, boating harbours, and local bars. An itinerary of at least 3 to 4 days is recommended to ensure you experience great value for money while immersing yourself in the area's rich heritage.
- Look for last-minute deals on Hotels.com: You may discover enticing hotel deals in Southwest Harbor by visiting the DealsOpens in a new window section on Hotels.com. For those planning spontaneous trips, the Last-Minute Deals section could prove useful, as it may offer discounted rates close to your travel date. Additionally, you’re more likely to see price drops or room availability alerts if you enable email notifications. The app’s Smart Shopping tool allows you to compare hotel prices and amenities efficiently, helping you secure the best possible option for your getaway.
- Be flexible with dates: Prices may differ depending on factors including the hotel's location, star rating, and season, so being flexible with your dates might help you save on your stay at a Southwest Harbor hotel. For those seeking distinctive accommodations, boutique hotels can provide a more personalised experience and, on occasion, better value. When you book with Hotels.com, we will indicate if the price for your chosen dates is above or below the average, and if it appears to be on the higher side, we may suggest alternative dates that could help you find a more attractive offer.
- Consider your location: Opting to reside closer to principal attractions or city centres may offer convenience but often comes at a higher cost. For more affordable rates, consider hotels in less central areas or neighbourhoods, balancing price with ease of access to your intended destinations. You might also look into independent establishments located further afield, which usually tend to be more likely affordable and can provide a more authentic, budget-friendly experience.
