I recently stayed two nights at the InterContinental San Antonio Riverwalk and while the hotel has a nice downtown location and friendly staff, my overall experience left me disappointed — especially given the price.
I was told over the phone there would be no fee for early check-in if a room was available, but upon arrival, I was charged a $100 early check-in fee, plus a $29 daily resort fee, and a $300 incidental hold (refundable). That’s on top of the ~$694 I already paid for the room — none of which was communicated clearly upfront.
Valet service is $64 per day, and while they’ll drop you off somewhere, they won’t pick you up, which is not what I expect from a “luxury” hotel. Every other luxury hotel I’ve stayed at in San Antonio offers complimentary valet vans for pickup and drop-off.
The in-room amenities were extremely overpriced — $12 for a water bottle, $18 for a can of almonds, and $25 for laundry (even though you only get a $20 credit if you upgrade). It felt like every little thing had an extra cost attached.
The pool, located on the third floor, was small and basic — not what you’d expect from a luxury hotel. The on-site restaurant had decent food, but the menu was very limited and everything was overpriced.
Again, I have to give credit to the staff — they were friendly and helpful throughout my stay. But overall, this hotel does not live up to the luxury label and feels more focused on squeezing extra money out of guests than providing an upscale experience
