Our first choice was Hotel Metropolitan but it was fully booked so we booked Nagano Tokyu REI Hotel. It is a modern business hotel opposite JR Nagano Station and very central for transportation, shopping and food.
Room is small but that is the norm in Japan. We booked two double rooms and each had a double bed pushed up against the wall on one side with a table with 2 chairs (one built-in) along the window with view of the train station. The bathroom is a modular builti-in unit that you step up to get inside.
My only dislike is there are two elevators on the ground floor of the building housing both hotel and entertainment complex. One elevator only goes up to 4F where the hotel lobby is. The other elevator goes up to all floors but does a mandatory stop on 4F for security reasons. Because of this, elevator wait times can be long. There is another elevator that only goes down to 2F so you have to take the stairs or the one escalator down to GF. At certain times the one escalator is set to going up, at other times it is set to going down.
Stayed for 2 nights. Hotel is right across the street from the JR station. Room was relatively small with just enough space for my luggage and to move around. The bathroom is a step up so be careful. Overall it was a comfortable stay.
