Poor maintenance outweigh the charm of this place
Just wanted a place to spend the night after a tiring visit to the areas of my alma mater. Check in was smooth. Front staff were nice. Hotel facade didn’t disappoint. But immediately after entering elevator, i can sense the oldness of building. Many spots on walls that could have been cleaned. Baseboard rotting. I accidentally walked past my room and horrified with staircase that’s full of molds /mildew on the wall. The walls of my room have signs of molds/mildew as well. The whole family was tired and i had no energy to fight. Our bathroom was well supplied. But our shower was wiggly. There’s a screw missing. We went to visit the pool area the next day for picture. Very far from pictures published in website. Lots of missing tiles. Breakfast buffet had a good selection. Weird that there’s no available milk even after requesting for a little bit “from the back”. I thought PHP 2k per head is a bit pricey. Then hotel management needs to improve cleanliness of the place. I just haven’t gotten the chance to reach out to my fraternity brods and friends in power. It is at a level of unsafe for public. DOH needs to visit the place.

2/10 Poor

Poor management of quality standards to hotel
Hôtel marketed on the lobby only. However quality of hotel is extremely poor for a 4* hotel which culminated on a wasted three nights: - Coffee machine broken (previous review 5 months ago still broken). Which 4* hotel cannot make a Cappuchino? To top it coffee is not with milk but sachets of creamer. Even airlines provide milk! - Hotel restaurant did not accept credit card and we could not add the food bill to the room. Which 4* hotel does this? - Breakfast is quantity over quality. Breakfast is cold so don’t expect noodles/rice/meat/fish/veg to seem cooked. Weirdly no selection of desserts in the buffet breakfast. Nasty smell in the third morning - Corridor walking up to the room had a gaping hole - As a tourist to get about (not hotels fault however) you’ll be lucky to get a grab/taxi especially during rush hour due to Manila traffic. This reinforces the requirement to ensure the hotel is to the quality standard expected as tourists if taxi not possible we were isolated in a hotel which was challenging to say the least especially within limited eateries and coffee places nearby. - Poorly maintained room corridors, room, back out door areas and restaurant that does not meet the maintenance invested in the lobby area. The back area connected to the lobby is not routinely cleaned. Even if staff see there are cans/cups that could be taken away to ease the appearance, there was no collective responsibility to ensure a clean environment. Note that staff were friendly.

My stay, was okay but had a few problems, Aircon broke right before bed and was not fixable, so we had to transfer rooms. The restaurant was under construction so had to leave the hotel to get food.

8/10 Very good

The property has a lot of history and in itself is a very beautiful and elegant building. It’s by the water with lovely views of boats, lights and sunsets. The pros: Staff were incredibly sweet and attentive, the breakfast buffet was so nice to sit and enjoy without feeling rushed. The air conditioning was very cool and nice in the room, the pool was nice as was the workout room which also had filtered water. The cons: Due to the nature of its size I can imagine it takes A LOT to maintain which has its minuses. Mold and leaks were present throughout despite its updated and beautiful finishings. Not much room storage as the furniture had false drawers. No fridge or safe in the room as well. The comforter wasn’t very thick and no hand towels / ample toilet paper were provided. Overall I do recommend this place as a place you want to feel catered to with authentic care. Just be mindful it’s an old historic building and some amenities were lacking.

Hassle free check in, room is clean and spacious as expected, and the service guy helped bring our luggage to our room. Loved the bottles of water on the counter.

Very historical facility! Fantastic views of Manila Bay. Walking distance to Rizal Park, Intramuros, light rail, eateries, entertainment, etc. Quiet. Gym and pool upstairs; great facilities and staff. Fabulous hotel staff! And a 2 minute walk to the US embassy.

Staffs are not friendly and accommodating during night shift. Water is dripping on any rooms we get. No hot water to take a shower, and no water during the typhoon for 2 days. We have an overall bad experience during our stay.

6/10 Good

Beautiful hotel but no hot water, leaky ceilings
There was only hot water for the first day of our stay. Some days had no water and some days had water in our room. We were transferred to a room without a view and weren't given the difference in price. The restaurant ran out of most of the food. At one point only being offered pancit, rice and eggs for dinner. Understanding this is Typhoon/Monsoon season, but these happen every year and ceilings shouldn't be leaking or collapsing if this is an annual occurrence. The Casino is now closed but it was listed on the page for booking. This would have been fun entertainment when we were stuck inside on rainy days.

The hotel used to be the old Army Navy club and it is literally next door to the US embassy. Beautiful hotel although there is a distinct musty smell right when you enter and some parts of the hotel. My parents thought it was due to being next to the bay. The towels are older (not as white or crisp) but the most redeeming part is how well the staff works hard and greets you. I would definitely recommend paying the $3 option for bfast buffet. Felt like we were in a cruise ship and the 2 waitstaff there are best!

The place is impeccable. Very clean in all areas. Pool is refreshingly clean , locker rooms was also clean. Outstanding staff, from receptionist to dining staff. Everyone’s very respectful. Special notice to Celso of Rizal Cafe. Will stay here again without any reservations. Our room’s view was facing the waters, which was an extra perks.
