10 Best Sunset Bars in Phuket

Baba Nest at Sri Panwa Phuket may have relatively short opening hours and a fairly remote location but it's widely regarded as one of the best rooftop bars in the world. Strikingly simple in design, it's just a large open deck surrounded on all sides by an infinity-edge pool. It's the stunning 360-degree views which make it so renowned.

Highly exclusive, there's limited available space and reservations are essential. In-house guests have a minimum-spend requirement of 500 baht while those not staying at Sri Panwa must spend at least 1,000 baht. Given that the extensive drinks menu features high-end cocktails, that’s not going to be a difficult number to reach.

You’ll come across several adjacent hillside bars/restaurants just above Kata Noi in Phuket. These rather simple and open-air eateries are a lot more relaxing than the often crowded Kata Viewpoint. You can find wooden floors and benches lining their western, sunset-facing sides. The menus are predominantly popular Thai dishes and snacks, fresh fruit juices, as well as local and international beers. 

The Kata Rocks Clubhouse specialises in Mediterranean and seafood dishes, with impressive views of the Andaman coast. It's part of the eponymous Kata Rocks, one of Phuket's premier beach resorts.

Sunset Grill is an excellent hillside bar and restaurant at the Hyatt Regency Phuket Resort. The open-sided eatery serves up high-quality grilled dishes, together with a backdrop of the sun descending into the Andaman Sea, all in a chic setting.

Sunset Grill is primarily an evening dining option, offering an extensive list of wines, beers, and cocktails. It's one of the most romantic bars and restaurants along Phuket’s west coast.

The Surface Restaurant & Bar is part of the La Flora Resort & Spa in Phuket's famous Patong Beach. Offering excellent yet affordable dining under the stars, this rooftop venue overlooks the Andaman Sea and Patong City. It's a classy sundowner spot, with a soft and unobtrusive playlist of Top 40 hits and classics that pairs well with waves breaking on the beach. 

There are around 30 mocktails and cocktails on the drinks list – a must-try is their signature cocktail, The Surface (vodka, Tia Maria, triple sec, lemon and pineapple juice). The wine list includes over 40 labels of champagnes, sparkling, whites and reds.

SALA Phuket's signature restaurant is right next to a lap pool, which means you can choose to dine poolside, inside the open-sided restaurant, or even on its roof. Tapas and cocktails are available at the beach bar, where you can unwind on oversized daybeds with breathtaking sunset views of Mai Khao Beach.

Enjoy a rooftop dining in SALA Phuket at tables floating on a reflection pond right above the main restaurant. Must-tries from its grazing menu include the char-grilled lamb chops, a tasting platter of Thai tapas served with a glass of prosecco, and rock lobster with mango.

Wassa Homemade Bar is a modest sundowner spot just off Hasip-Pee Road in Patong Beach. Surrounded by trees, this rustic-looking bar has several wooden huts with thatched roofs, as well as an open-air platform overlooking the entire bay of Patong on Phuket’s west coast.

You can enjoy authentic local dishes such as papaya salad and massaman curry at very reasonable prices. Take in the impressive sunset views with your choice of cocktail, beer or smoothie. 

BUKITO by Phromthep Cape Restaurant straddles the hillside, overlooking Ya Nui and Nai Harn beaches in Phuket. This open-air restaurant opens all day, though it's best to visit in the late afternoon or evening when the sun is much more forgiving. You can also call ahead to reserve a table in a shaded spot.
