Arrived unable to access apartment due to construction going on which we were unaware of. The area in front of the access door was completely blocked by contractors vehicles with wire fence and orange tape. After making enquires it was ascertained this was the access to apartment, on entering with our bags we had to make our way through dust construction debris and 8-10 workman carrying bucket loads of construction material which they were emptying on their truck parked outside the apartment door in the zoned off area. We made our way through and construction carried on until late afternoon and started again at 7.00am the next morning. We were very disappointed as had we had known this we would have looked for alternative accommodation. This is not acceptable as under New Zealand law the consumers guarantees act we did not get what we had booked and paid for. Despite corresponding with unit owner Riccardo at no stage were we made aware of any construction. There were construction materials offloaded and placed in the entrance further blocking access as well as scaffolding.
As much as we felt aggrieved at
a. not being informed
b. arriving into thick dust and noise and having to lift several bags through the work zone we also felt for the builders as we were clearly interrupting them in their work.
The 2nd floor on which we stayed had construction notices attached along with building gear and tools.
We look forward to hearing a response on this matter.
