As my first time in a 5-star resort/hotel, I wasn't sure what to expect. What I received, however, completely blew me away. We stayed for 2 weeks. The staff is super friendly and attentive, without being excessive. The breakfast had a lot of variety with daily chefs preparing in front of you rather than out of view in a kitchen, and everything was always fresh. The rooms are spacious for two, although I obviously only saw the one.
I visited during the end of the low season when the weather was still fairly hot but not too much so, and it meant that a lot of services were regularly unoccupied, with only a few people at the pool or the gym. A big plus.
For the breakfast, we were regularly served by Chantrea and Savey who were excellent and quickly remembered our requests and Rothana in the crêpe station would serve with a bright smile. Being in the company of a coffee connoisseur, it was also impressed upon me that the coffee was excellent (while I enjoyed the teas instead).
The hotel is a bit off the main tourist streets, but there's a fleet of tuktuks available to take anyone where they're going quickly and for a fair price (do remember to agree a price in advance) or typically for $25 for a full day. Lipai, the concierge, also offered good suggestions and directions for what to see.
From the breakfast to the pool, the gym, the dinner, the cleanliness and the staff attentiveness, I couldn't find any flaws if I tried looking for it. My only problem was that the WiFi in the
