We found Relais Afitheatro at short notice and were so very glad to.
It is small, new, beautifully furnished place, with 4 rooms, and a central reception area, with a breakfast bar and outside patio available for guests to use.
The building is actually built on the site of the Roman Amphitheatre, part of which is visible at the nearby Stesicoro Piazza, while the rest is buried under the modern city buildings, or indeed has walls incorporated into the fabric of modern buildings. There is a section of the Amphitheatre next to the stairs as you climb from the front door to the reception area (everything is on the first floor).
We were lucky enough to have booked the "Anfitheatro Suite" which is the centrepiece flagship room. There are sections of the old walls incorporated into the room, beautifully showcased by lighting around the bed area and also the bathroom.
It's very comfortable, and the bathroom features a rainshower, & mood lighting, and the air conditioning works very well too.
Being so central, there is a lot of noisy hustle & bustle around the area, but with the rooms facing either into the private courtyard or onto an otherwise hidden section of the amphitheatre walls, it isn't too intrusive, and with the windows closed the modern double-glazing seals you off very well from the noise, so much so that it's easy to forget you're just a few yards from the busy Via Etnea & Stesicoro Piazza.
Wonderful place. A+.
