The staff was fabulous; both helpful and kind. We were unaware that caves are humid, which was our naivete. Breakfast was ample. Our cave was large and had lots of places to sit comfortably, inside and out. The only reason the stay was not 100% excellent was the humidity inside the cave despite running dehumidifiers and air conditioning. Having a sweet dog on premises was a bonus!

A fabulous stay in Sassi
This is a unique and fantastic hotel. The location is perfect, the staff is exceptional, the room is clean and comfortable, the breakfast was amazing. We felt welcomed and right at home. We highly recommend staying here to enjoy the hospitality and to experience history.

To be honest, we weren't sure what to expect. But after learning about the history of the city and what it has taken to come back is amazing! Having the experience of being able to stay in a "cave" was a something we will never forget. The first room we had, had so much humidity that the sheets and comforter was damp. We did not sleep well at all. The next night we went to another hotel to get some sleep. The third night we were moved to another room which was fine. They were very nice about moving us.

In the heart of the sassi/ old matera. Beautiful rooms with good amenities. Very clean and comfortable. Walking distance to everything. Host was friendly and other staff were polite, they took the trouble to use translate so they could communicate. Breakfast is the italian way so cake and coffee. We didn't eat at the restaurant but the food looked delicious. Highly recommend this property, we would stay here again

Beautiful view but a lot of humidity
The room itself was beautiful but the humidity in the room was unbearable. The air conditioning and dehumidifier in the room should always be left on so that all the humidity and smell is removed from the room. The furniture was damp along with the bed covers and pillows.
