2/10 Poor

Absurdly Small
It’s a submarine unit sized room, with rules and regulations equivalent to Soviet Russia for no noise, food, guests or drinks. It’s a bed in a Porto potty essentially. But it’s cheap for New York, which is being the tallest midget in terms of hotel rooms. Walls are thin, expect to hear snores, itches, burps and farts of anyone near you throughout the night.

Save yourself and book anywhere else
One of the worst places to stay to. I couldn’t have a proper rest! Beside the room is literally a box with one tiny bed max for someone up to 1.70 cm (I am 1.65cm) you can hear everything from everyone. Farts, cough, talking, slamming doors you name it. No matter what time is people are super noisy. Even with earplugs was hard to sleep. Thin paper walls with open ceiling makes it hard to switch off from a hard walking day in NY. No hot water at all in the showers. During my 3 nights stay, was able only once to have a shower and that was with cool water. All the rest of the days, no matter day or night water was freezing cold. Had to wash my hair and myself in a sink at the separate toilet which gave me some hot water. Not enough showers and toilets for the too many guests and not feeling safe while you are in the shower as people come in and out. There is only one hook to put your stuff which anyone could take while you are in the shower . It’s cheaper than anything else out there in Manhattan but please save yourself from this torture and pay a bit more by staying somewhere else that at least provides the very basic. I am not sure what happened but one of the nights at 11pm they kicked out a guest from one of the boxes-rooms. I could hear the conversation but they didn’t even tell him why. They just cancelled his reservation and kicked him out. Guest seemed polite on his responses so it was hard to believe that he did something that bad to be kicked out at that time!

No sleep possible
It’s clean and a good location, but if you want any sleep don’t do it. It’s basically like 35 beds in one room all together. You hear everything like it’s right next to you. I slept maybe 3-4 hours a night maximum.

Have you ever wanted to role play as a stowaway?
This is a very specific type of place to stay. While it's a hostel, it honestly feels more like a transient shelter. There are very strict rules about not making noise because everyone is crammed in like sardines in "cabin" stalls that are just big enough for the bed. Even if you're under 6' you should think about the ways you stretch and move around while you sleep because you're at serious risk for getting hurt. One night I woke up to someone screaming bloody murder - I assumed it was either because she was having a nightmare, almost fell off the small bed, or both. Not everyone respects the no noise rules (staff included). It has a weird antisocial atmosphere. Could use more bathrooms, better lighting, etc., etc., but it's decently clean if you need a place to pass out in NYC. You'll have to pass out because there's just too much wrong with the place to get comfortable and sleep.

Nolita Express - basic but does the job
The Nolita Express is well located to walk uptown (30mins to Union Square and 1hr to Rockefeller Centre which is do-able if having a gentle wander) but also close to Spring Street and Canal Street subways which connect with a variety of other subway lines. The hostel's common areas are decorated with a vintage feel and feel welcoming. The actual rooms are very small with just enough room for a short bed (I'm 5ft 2 inches and my feet could touch the wall at the end of the bed) and space for a suitcase alongside. There is no complete ceiling on the bed space so it is *very* easy to hear others talk, snore and cough but earplugs are provided (I didn't try these so don't know how effective they are). I stayed in December so the prices may have been higher and it did seem expensive for the dorm space provided, but as a basic hotel room was $800 more, it was a no-brainer! If you're looking for cheaper accommodation that's central and all you really need is a place to put your head at the end of the day, the Nolita Express will do the job just fine. No complaints - thank you for my stay!

totally as expected and so fine
Its soo cheap you know what you are in for lol. The bed is only about 5'8 long so I warn tall people not to consider this place. And basically one toilet and 2 showers for 64 people lmao. And literally no ceilings so you can hear every little cubicle's rustling. I wore noise cancelling headphones over earplugs, and therefore I slept really well regardless.

You get what you pay for
An uncomfortable tiny "pod" without a ceiling. You will hear every noise every other body makes in the hostel, which should not advertise itself as offering private rooms. Technically you are surrounded by four walls, but you are not enclosed for reasons of "fire" code they say. You will need earplugs. Quiet hours are not enforced, someone was watching tv in the pod next to mine at full volume late into the night and since there is no ceiling... I could hear everything. Nice common spaces, terrible tiny rooms. Cheap for a reason.

Great value
This is exactly what I needed in New York, a clean bed in a nice room with good communcal spaces for working. The only downside was the bathroom because I was on the shared floor and female bathrooms were on another floor so it was a bit of a pain but honestly solid value for money in New York and a really nice alternative to a regular hostel.

Read before you stay
This building is really cool but was disappointed with how small the room is. I’m 6’1 And can’t fully extend. Thankfully I’m barely in the room so the size wasn’t an issue til I extended. The main problem is the floor is cement and noise travels which wouldn’t be an issue if the ceilings weren’t holes. There is no ceiling so you can hear everything, snowing travels across the hole floor. That also means light come in because all the lights are never off. Something is also beeping every 10 seconds twice. I have no idea what it is. The last bad part is the pillow is super super thin. Now, I realize 90$ isn’t a lot to stay somewhere but this place needs to do better. I will not stay here again. However, staff is cool and the rooms are clean. Showers and sinks could be a little cleaner but overall fine.
