We wanted an overnight stay on our way to the Lake District and found a perfect gem of a hotel. From the moment we arrived we were cared for by great staff. Our bedroom was a suite and just gorgeous. Dinner and breakfast were superb with plenty of choices. Wandering around the extensive beautifully manicured grounds we found the kitchen garden which is obviously used for a great deal of the food in the hotel. Just wished we could have stayed longer.
Disappointing stay as this hotel markets itself as the luxury market. It is not. Beautiful old building in pretty grounds butâĶ room ( garden luxury room) was poor. Mattress was dreadful. Only one armchair which was uncomfortable and not clean. On closing the curtains moths flew out and the curtains were stained with what looked like blood - maybe from other moths. There was an anti slip mat for the shower which was filthy. The shower and wash basins drained very slowly. Furniture tired. Tiny wardrobe. Nowhere to put a suitcase.
Drawing room was a beautiful room spoiled by dated, cheap furniture. Staffing issues in the evening where most staffed seemed focussed on the dining room.
Breakfast in the orangerie where the seats were stained and dirty.
This could be a beautiful hotel but has a way to go.
This is the worst experience weâve had with hotels.com
I bought a two night stay as a christmas gift for my parents. Thye have had a fabulous stay, the location, gardens, views, staff and meals were all amazing.
We stayed for a few days and found that this lovely place was full of historic character and the bed was absolutely lovely and i just could not wait to get back to just have a really good night's sleep. The staf are and very helpfel , charming and made our stay so much better. The breakfast was great and the food choice was very good. They is a front room which is great for just resting and reading a good book and nice beverage. If we ever have a the chance to visit this area , this is the first choice as the exprience was just impeccable.
Where to start! Outstanding in every way. Room excellent, food likewise, staff welcoming and helpful, surrounding grounds ideal for exploring, pricing extremely competitive.
A lovely historic country house hotel with exquisite gardens. Near a great local pub if you donât want 6-course meal on site. Geared towards events & weddings but still a gorgeous place to stay.
A wonderful stately home hotel on the edge of a quiet North Yorkshire village, with lovely staff, great rooms/suites, enchanting public rooms and an excellent breakfast. The restaurant was closed for dinner when we stayed (we knew this when we booked) but we were recommended to try the hotelâs sister establishment, The Bay Horse pub, just a 5 minute walk away in the village, where the food was first class. Both the hotel and the pub are highly recommended.
We loved our stay here and the staff were very helpful and friendly, we wish we could have stayed longer. The facilities were beautiful at such a reasonable price. The surrounding grounds were beautiful. We ate dinner at the pub down the street which was excellent. Would definitely stay here again and have recommended it to others.
