The first room we got was on the 3rd floor and we were met with a strange smell...like cheese and onion. Supposedly it came from the bakery behind the hotel. We also had the problem of the bath tub/shower drain was clogged ( standing in 2 inches of water after showering) and the battery in the remote control was dead.
We did get moved to a 7th floor room which was much better and bigger but it did face Madison Ave and 28th St. The problem then was the room is not sound proof, so every night around midnight you are awoken by the garbage truck making a racket while picking up all the garbage in the metal dumpsters; interspersed with car horns and EMS sirens...I guess the typical sights and sounds of NYC.
Apart from these things it is well located within 5-10 min walk to subway, food stores, shopping. We loved the decor, the bed was very comfortable, quiet room AC/heater, nice touches like a vanity kit , slippers and umbrella.
