Sadly degraded since our last visit
Friendly staff and fantastic communication to ensure we arrived with details of how to check-in etc. We have stayed at this hotel and left ok-good reviews, however, on this occassion we are sad to say we weren't impressed. It's a shame because it's in a perfect location, the building has great character and the staff are very approachable. It just appears that whoever is in charge doesn't want to spend any money on the neccessary basics. The room was extremely tired (Room 7). The bathroom fan didn't work, the fitting holding the curtain fell halfway down every time we opened the curtains. Wallpaper had come off the walls in sections. The mattress was extremely uncomfortable, checking under the bed there was actually a panel missing too. The worst being that the door to the room actually had a large gap at the bottom which meant that you might as well had not had a door attached as you could hear ever conversation in the hallway and in the opposite room. We had to put a coat down to block out the hallway light. Last time we visited there were available plates available to anyone in the kitchen area. The carpet on the stairs was beginning to come away. Unfortunately, this time it felt like we were using plates that belonged to someone who appeared to live there as the only options in the (unclear) commune cupboards were a mix-match of large bowls and one plate amongst other kitchenware.

2/10 Poor

Corners have been cut
Bit gutted writing this as I never ever want to knock a small business, not sure if the photos will upload but the carpets are falling apart, some of the ceiling paint fell onto the bed when we arrived as well as dust on the bed. Bed was comfortable although incredibly loud and creaky which led to poor sleep and constantly waking up. Room is damp in places. Definitely needs some tlc, shower and toilet leaking couldn’t find anyone to speak to. Table for teas and coffee right up against the bed, a smaller table for the room would make a massive improvement. The whole place could do with some love has some potential to make the rooms a bit more welcoming. Should change name from Guest House to Hostel, as Guest House is a little misleading. Did like the easy key pick up and drop off and the extension lead. Even if it was called a hostel, unfortunately I wouldn’t return:( I hope this feedback is somewhat useful.
Broken carpet
Large table boxing you in
Dust from the bed
Paint falling off the wall

This is very much a budget self catering accommodation that feels a bit hostel/HMO However its situated right on seafront with easy walking to any part of Aberystwyth. They also have lovely little cafe downstairs with lovely staff. Room was basic and a bit tight, but we were out and about each day so not an issue.

8/10 Very good

The chap who was on reception during our stay (Abdallah - apologies if I've misremembered, or misspelt, his name) was welcoming, helpful, pleasant and friendly. The room was very comfortable, and the presence of a fridge was very welcome, as was access to the kitchen downstairs. In the bathroom, the shower was great, but the toilet was a little bit tall/raised up, making it a bit awkward to sit on, and the seat wouldn't stay up on its own and had to be held in place in case it fell back down. The coffee and cake in the cafe downstairs were lovely and reasonably priced. Some of the carpet on the stairs was a little worn and, while it wasn't a problem for us, it could be a potential safety issue if it's not replaced/repaired soon. Overall, an enjoyable stay.

Dont
Not anywhere on you site does it say that it is a hostel. First impression I got when was people slumped over the chairs in the common room, after my shower I had to dry myself with my own Tee shirt as towels were filthy. bed was very uncomfortable and too small as my feet hung out the bottom

Nice welcome on arrival. Room was clean and bed was comfortable BUT it does need a bit of work. New carpets are needed throughout the b&b.

Needs serious improvement but perfect location.
Purely booked to use one key cash points and somewhere to go on bank holiday. Wouldn’t have paid full price (£80) for rear room. Carpet really worn out throughout property and doors needed work - the hotel room door had a big hole and bathroom door didn’t shut properly. Needs extensive renovation. We also noticed the room floor wasn’t level. However the room had everything you needed for short stay - had towels, toiletries, kettle, tea and coffee etc. Location was perfect and staff really friendly. Average stay!

The property is on the seafront near the dog friendly area of the beach so very convenient for us. The room was small and run down, the bathroom door did not shut and there was no running cold water however the water was fixed very quickly when we mentioned it. The stay was ok but we will not be returning as there are far better places to stay in Aberystywth.

Budget friendly, clean place to stay but …
A clean place to stay with excellent sea views. Carpets are threadbare and finish is basic. A budget, clean place to stay. Stair carpets are dangerous and should be replaced due to tripping hazards. This would also give a better first impression!

We wont be coming back. We rang 17 times with a couple of important questions in the week prior to check in. No answer. On arrival we banged on the locked door for 20 minutes...no answer. Then a neighbour told us to go next door....which was actually a different name and different number. The guest houses were joined inside but nobody had bothered to tell us. The phone was ringing in reception...it was being ignored. Inside a labarinth of corridors, stairs, doors, etc to our room...in the original building for which the key was lost...so we could go out that door but had to come in the other door. Room was over 30 degrees and stiffling hot. We asked for a fan....they didnt have any. Windows were screwed shut!!! Receptionist said she keeps telling owner to buy fans but he refuses. We asked to move rooms and were allowed ...there were a lot of empty rooms ...but again stiffling hot and windows screwed shut. We met a man on the stairs..." Im not staying in this sh..t hole" he said and trundled his cases down the stairs. We rang around but nowhere else had vacancies so we spent evening in and out of the cold shower and dowsed ourselves with wet towels. Carpet threadbare, scuzzy fittings, filthy windows , etc....
