We visited with two large dogs, one of which can be quite anxious. However she settled quickly and staff were more than happy to accommodate her needs.
Vegan and veggie breakfasts were great with a wide selection of jams to have with the complimentary toast.

An excellent atmospheric and comfortable hotel with a very young front of house staff who really knew what they were doing, a credit to the hotel.

Food was excellent. Staff were friendly.
Hotel a little different from standard with a very art deco feel.
Minor irritations included the very poor wifi; our room was next to the fire door banged everytime someone went through it (the fault of the guests who didnt close the door but let it bang); our bathroom sink was partially blocked; and the hand shower didnt work ( which we raised but was told yes its been like that awhile). Also dont expect to see red squirrels that are advertised, we were told that they dont appear sincevthey stopped feeding them.

The location is spectacular as was the weather. Kate the manager is exceptional, she had agency staff who were a credit to her but new one had been there 2 hours, a chef walked out and she was cooking as well as running and managing everything including a power cut. The hotel is tired we had a suite and the plugs didn’t work in the bath and shower, the bath was also chipped. If they spent the money and invested in the proper and staff it would be awesome, the garden needed mowing and was generally untidy. The food was ok but expensive for what it was. Overall Kate and the team made the weekend.

Stunning views, location and garden.
Room was clean, food was good except my intolerance was not considered in all my food despite informing them in advance.
Unfortunately let down by poor service of staff throughout the stay - front desk, waiting staff and duty manager. Especially the duty manager who asked for extra tips and charged us £8 for a pint of Diet Coke…

Very authentic but needs a refresh without losing its historic authenticity. Needs elevator and trailheads are too far (1 1/2 miles to Old Corpse Road trailhead) - needs trailhead right behind hotel.
Dinner menu not good — very fancy, very narrow, might be popular in Knightsbridge or Kensington but not in mountains where people out and about and craving hearty meal at end of day- the “bread” was ridiculous.

Bathroom was filthy and covered in white powder (possibly plaster dust). Reported it but staff took no action which was very disappointing, especially considering the high cost of the room. Very understaffed and overall poor value for money. Which if booked somewhere else in hindsight as I've stayed in far better lake district hotels for less money.
