We used Expedia to book this place, the images shown on the website looked good and it gave the appearance of being a nice hotel near Venice. It was late and we contacted the hotel with the intention of getting directions or some kind of explanation on how to reach their place. Upon arrival, we discovered the place was not exactly as advertised; it was not a hotel, but a guesthouse in the middle of nowhere. The house had no elevators, so taking our bags to the room on the third floor would’ve been extremely difficult, considering we are a family of five. Entering the room, we were greeted with a strong and obtrusive smell of disinfectant, a smell that made it nearly impossible for someone to spend the night there. This, the checkout time of 10:00 AM, and the lack of elevators, meant great difficulty for us to stay there. Since the owner only spoke Italian, we talked to his wife (or assistant), and she told us not to worry, she understood the place was not suitable for us. She said we could leave even-minded and she would contact Expedia to make sure we got our money back, cancelling any charges done to our card. This did not happen, since the next day, when we sent a message, they replied saying there would be no cancelation and they refused to give the money back. This was NOT my first time using Expedia and in previous occasions, when a mistake was made, it had been very easy for the hosts to cancel the reservation and make a refund.
