To save a few bucks, I thought I would go with Sleep Inn on this recent trip to Birmingham. The pictures looked inviting and the space looked to be adequate. However, upon arrival, we were almost knocked over with the strong smell of Fabuloso or Pine-Sol or a combination of both. It was so strong in the room. The room itself is pretty rundown, paint chipping, windowsill falling out of the window. We figured that out when we tried to open the window to air out the room. Carpet was pretty nasty…Sticky. The bathroom door could barely open up without hitting the front of the toilet. We didn’t have breakfast, but attempted to have the coffee. Tried the medium and bold brew and both were like coffee tinted water. The pull out couch was old and basically springs so we could not use it. Also, found food wrappers in the couch when we pulled it out.
The front desk was polite but not very helpful when it came to a mishap with our reservation after a death in the family. (Still waiting to hear from the manager re: refund of a changed reservation.)
We’ve been in a circle of communication with Sleep Inn and Hotels.com and have not gotten anywhere. I will continue to book my future stays with Hilton hotels directly through their website. I will not be using hotels.com again as well.
