Not a great stay…
My two-night stay at Grand Hotel Olympic was full of issues, and I wouldn’t stay here again. I usually don’t write hotel reviews, but this experience was bad enough to change that. I travel at least twice a year, and this was one of the worst stays I’ve had.
Room & Bathroom Issues
The bathroom sink was covered in laundry lint when I arrived—no idea how that even happens. Housekeeping came to clean it and change the sheets, but those had stains and hair on them. The bathroom itself had a loose towel rack, a tiny shower with no space for toiletries, and a leak. On my second day, the toilet stopped flushing, and I had to call maintenance.
Unpleasant Environment
The hotel smelled heavily of smoke, especially near the breakfast area, where staff and maintenance gathered to smoke. As a non-smoker, it was awful to walk through every morning.
Lack of Basic Amenities
When I asked for an iron, I was told they don’t keep them for “guest safety.” Most hotels at least have a designated area for ironing.
Unhelpful Staff
The front desk was no help when I got stuck due to a marathon blocking the entrance. Instead of offering solutions, I had to spend two hours figuring it out myself, ultimately missing my train and losing over €100.
Final Thoughts
This hotel is rated 4 stars, but that’s far from reality. At best, it’s a 1 or maybe 2 stars. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable stay in Rome.
