Great, very large city. Take a city tour to see all the areas east of the Old City area - incredible beach communities. Botanical gardens and other areas (art museum, etc) north of Old City were wonderful and all free - and could reach by city bus.

Montevideo is a pleasing city with a low-key and pleasant vibe. I recommend it for a mix of urban/ beach. If your sole focus is nice beaches, go to Punta del Este. The water in Montevideo is more river water, which some beachgoers don't like.

Walking along the beach is the best activity. We expected more from the old city, not many places to walk around or attractions except for the mercado and the cathedral.

Excelente! Povo acolhedor e pra quem gosta de lugares históricos, muita coisa a conhecer. Ponto negativo: Pais com custo de vida muito caro. Aliás, foi eleito o país mais caro da América do Sul.

Montevideo is worth a visit, quite different to other South American capitals. Great guided tours, value for money. Did we mention the food?

Take a tour to understand the city bette there are some great parts of the city but for us the centre wasn't the best part. Be warned, Montevideo is as expensive as London but it's a really nice city if a bit cold in May!

Montevideo is a beautiful city. Try Pocitos or any other neighborhood, no downtown or the old city

Loved the nearby beach promenade that goes on for miles. The area within walking distance of the hotel has a safe, neighbourhood vibe, and good restaurants.
"My 2nd or 3rd stay here. Excellent property, except one comment: Room lighting is very deficient; one could barely see what is in drawers, or across the room."
"My stay at the Hotel Montevideo was exceptional from start to finish. As a member of Leading Hotels of the World, the hotel truly lives up to its reputation for sophisticated elegance and impeccable attention to detail.
The room, furnished by RH.com, was a masterpiece of design and comfort. The tasteful decor, high-quality furniture, and luxurious bedding created a serene and inviting atmosphere. It's clear that every element was carefully selected to provide a premium experience.
A major highlight for me was the fitness center. It's truly a cut above the rest, featuring top-of-the-line equipment from NOHRD and WaterRower. This isn't your average hotel gym; it's a beautifully designed, functional space that makes a workout feel like a treat rather than a chore.
The staff was consistently professional, warm, and attentive. Their commitment to guest satisfaction was evident in every interaction, from the front desk to the housekeeping team.
The Hotel Montevideo is more than just a place to stay—it's an experience in refined luxury. I highly recommend it to anyone seeking an upscale, stylish, and comfortable retreat.

"This hotel is fantastic! The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The breakfast was delicious with many options. We especially enjoyed the staff who were kind and accommodating! "
"There no better way to wake up in Montevideo and see the water of Rio de la Plata. This is the view you can enjoy at NH Colombia. And that is what makes this hotel my favorite one in Montevideo so far. There is a lot more to like about that place. The service is outstanding, the breakfast great and the gym on the top floor offers a beautiful view of the city.
The hotel shows its age a bit but this did not bother me at all. "
"Todo estuvo de acuerdo a lo que uno espera de un Hotel de esta categoría. Tuvimos un problema con el Control de la calefaccion de la Habitación, y nos ofrecieron un Upgrade de habitación.
El desayuno, es muy completo y de buena calidad, pero no tan completo como en otras oportunidades"
"The area around the hotel, with the ocean and the walking/biking path, is breathtaking. Front desk staff speaks good English, very helpful and accommodating as I changed rooms to get a love seat. Restaurant is excellent, 25 percent off for guests, waiter we kept getting was so pleasant (wish I got a name). Room was good, great view, Climate control a little strange, set the same across the hotel. Bring your own tissues. Good shower, comfortable bed. Lots of things available in the room to be charged for but not overly pricey. Enjoyed breakfast, different breads, eggs cooked to request. Didn't have a car, took Uber everywhere. Hotel is definitely recommended. "
