2/10 Poor

This hotel claims to be 4-star, but it falls far short of those expectations. The location and views are wonderful, but in Mt. Cook, that’s not unique to this property. Our room, meant for four, had two queen beds and no seating at all. It felt like the hotel expected us to eat elsewhere or spend a fortune in their overpriced restaurant ($83 per person), instead of providing even basic amenities like chairs. The mattress was so soft I was constantly rolling off, and the pillows were of very poor quality. Despite claiming the mattress was new, it offered little support, making sleep uncomfortable. The paint in the room was peeling, the bathroom lacked a heater, and overall, the hotel failed to provide the comfort and quality one would expect from a 4-star. It’s disheartening to pay such exorbitant prices for minimal amenities. Not enoguh parking as well. They seem to be capitalizing on the lack of alternatives in the area. I hope another option opens up for future visitors.

Such beautiful scenery and beds were super comfy. Alpine restaurant had lots of variety and the beef and pork were superb.

You need more dining options, laundry service stopping at 5.30pm is unhelpful. But spectacular views, comfy room, buffet dinner was lovely albeit pricey and no alternative.

2/10 Poor

Stay away. Do your day trip to mount cook instead. The buffet at alpine restaurant was terrible. The room and hotel look like it hasn’t been upgraded since the 1980s. There are stains on the floor carpet and you can hear the spring from the mattress when you sleep. Not a good experience at all, avoid at all cost. Not worth it even at half the room rate.

Good place to have a getaway from urban living Abit costly but good to some quiet time midway to queenstown from Christchurch or vice versa. Get here via great sights tour if needed

Building is overpriced for what it is, same as the restaurants, they take seriously that they are the only facility in Mount cook and take advantage to rip people off, buffet dinner for guests still extra $79 which is ridiculous. The hotel is old and smells, the TV has 0 signal and it was impossible to watch anything which is bad considering there is nothing to do at night around the area. The place should at least have smart tvs. The bathrooms are small. For 3 people we paid $999 for 2 nights which for that price I would have expected so much more. I would definitely not stay again in this place Don’t let yourself fool by the pictures online, it’s nothing like that. Only positive part is staff was friendly and the view of the hotel was nice.

The two ladies at the reception were very nice and helpful. As it was raining hard, we could not go to the park, so they helped us to move into our room quickly. The hotel has two restaurants, both have more than two hours wait list. Both have set menus and fixed, high price. No a la carte. There is no room service available. So hotel guests are forced into captives of the restaurants.

Amazing location
Location was spectacular! Our room wasn’t ready when we arrived so we went for a hike. The room was pretty standard and the bathroom a little dated but the view made you forgot about all that. Not sure you would get a view like that anywhere in the world!

2/10 Poor

We had a bad impression from the moment we met with reception. We checked in, greeted by a blunt staff member. As we entered the lobby where our room was located, it became immediately apparent the decor is dated, and in need of repair. The carpet was heavily stained, and it felt like a dirty, dark and dingy motor in, not a $500 per night hotel. The room we had had a nice view. It too was heavily dated. Rusty fittings on the toilet, a broken window in the hallway, and to top off our first impression a pamphlet on the bed welcoming our feedback was bent and tossed carelessly on the bed. A clear indication that management doesn't motivate their staff to take pride in the presentation of rooms. Come 430 pm we felt like having a wine and watching the sunset over the mountains on the balcony (best seat in the house) - however this is accessibile via the cafe that closes at 4pm... The bar area was nice for a wine in front of the window with the mountain view, though located on the ground floor. Come dinner, there is only 1 option. The buffet - $65pp. There were some elements of the buffet that were okay, however there were some concerning, unsafe food practices that was off putting. The beef sitting in a bay-maree that was cold, bbq pork ribs coming out "fresh" however being cold and chewy - these too in the bay-maree which should be keeping them at a safe temperature. A glass of wine costing minimum $15-$16 (the same whole bottles available from a supermarket for that price).
