4/10 Fair

Vastly overpriced, shabby condition, best avoided
I am still struggling to comprehend how the property can justify charging what it does for such a totally underwhelming experience, and how different an experience that is compared to a nearby Lodge which is run by the same company. John Muir Lodge clearly has potential, and possibly was great once, but there is a distinct air of "we've got a captive audience and as such are completely apathetic to the guest experience". The rooms are tired and in need of renovation (our slat blind was broken for example, and the shower water was either low pressure and scaling or adequate pressure and cold - as such the 5 min "shower challenge" is easily achieved despite the timer being missing) and the facilities provided are poor - the three sorry looking grocery store-style refrigerators were very poorly stocked. The dining experience provided by the offsite restaurant is little better than a well known fast food restaurant (large touchscreens to order off a very limited and poor quality menu) but again charging "captive audience" prices. The walk from the Lodge to the restaurant also highlights general dilapidation of other buildings on site which only reinforces the "past its best" ambience. The most galling thing is that the other Lodge, a 45 min drive away, is SO much better and yet cheaper! I'd strongly advise passing on the John Muir and driving the extra distance.

We stayed at the John Muir Lodge for 2 nights while exploring Kings Canyon and Sequoia. Our room was on the second floor. There was no elevator. The weather was quite warm and there was no AC, only a tower fan. The beds were comfortble. There was a balcony at the end of the hallway but it would have been nice to have a balcony off of our room. The staff was very friendly.

Convenient location for the National Parks. Restaurant was around a 7 min walk from the hotel and the food was basic and had to be ordered via screens in the lobby and was then delivered to your table. Rooms dated but clean. The

A nice property especially being within the national park. The room was functional and well equipped but basic. It offered everything we wanted and was very clean. The dining facilities are limited to the restaurant within the national park and a small grocery store. Any other dining options are a long way from the property. Staff were friendly and the common areas in the lodge were warm and comfortable.

Excellent location for exploring Kings Canyon and Sequioa National Park, with super friendly and helpful staff, but lodge accomodation is showing its age and food options were very limited and basic, with a lot of plastic cutlery and packaging for a setting that should have concern for the environment at the heart of its operation.

2/10 Poor

NO AIR CONDITIONING
This was our first stop after a long day of cross country flights and driving. We finally arrive only to find out that in 100° heat, the place has no air conditioning! Even with the window open and a fan running wide open, it was a miserable night for both of us! Don't let the name of "John Muir Lodge" fool you. I did not check to see if the place had A/C, I only assumed....and you know what they say about that! We were unimpressed with our accommodations and were glad to move on!

Decent but no options for dining. The room was ok but no air con. It’s in the middle of a National park so we weren’t expecting more.
