Old town is solid for a day of wandering and well worth the loooong hike to the basillica for the views. Surprisingly the Cinema and Mineature Museum is great. Solid dining as well. Check out Abel's for an old school experience.

Lyon was lovely - we spent a week there and had plenty to do, it's quite big with a range of areas to go into. Transport was easy to work out. Easy to reach other places in France from Lyon Part-Dieu station.

We were put off by the taxi ride in - the outskirts of Lyon are rather ugly. Blocks of apartments - but the food is terrific and the old town is beautiful. So lovely to walk along the Soane river.
