Perth is a gorgeous, liveable little city and strolls around the majestic Tay are on the Salutation's doorstep. The new Museum with the Stone of Destiny will hopefully be a shot in the arm to a town centre that, like everywhere, is struggling a bit.

Perthshire is the very centre of Scotland. If you spend a few minutes checking train or bus times you can have brilliant experiences whichever direction you venture in. Perth is itself a lovely place to base yourself.

Downtown Perth is interesting, some streets appear a little rundown (something not admittedly unique to Perth), but there are some very good restaurants and the new Perth Museum is excellent.
