This is a beautiful hotel with great views of the river and countryside. It is quiet and the rooms are very nice. I used the private baths with no waiting. The bar is a great whisky and wine bar. Complimentary ramen was very nice and filling. Other snacks are also given free. Staff were so friendly, and managed around my language barrier with ease and friendliness.
Good basic hostel. Nice staff, comfortable lounge area and lots of parking available. Close to masshu-ko. Not very noise proof against people walking in the corridors early in the morning/late at night
Not a cheap hotel, but really excellent. The evening meals are a particular treat and although few if any of the staff speak fluent English, we were able to communicate well with all the staff we met.
We booked a superior suite and had a reasonably good view of the lake, booking the next price up and I think you'd get a really excellent view.
Of all the places we stayed in Japan, this was my favourite.
I cannot rate this hotel highly enough. It is in a good location, just a few minutes walk from the Fisherman's Wharf and is very comfortable. Breakfast was amazing - you choose from one of four choices each day. The beef is truly wonderful. You also get access to a small lounge by the front desk which provides free water and juice all day. There is also the option of free soup and/or curry in the evenings should you want it. Staff are lovely too.
We picked this hotel as we wanted to visit Akan National Park but didn't fancy the resort towns of Akanko Onsen and the other town (sorry, can't recall the name). This hotel appealed because of its relative isolation and if you have a car then you can drive to Akanko Onsen (about 1 hr) or wherever you want to be to go hiking etc. It wasn't quite as romantic and isolated as we'd imagined though - the front looks more like a Premier Inn (the photos are taken from the back which I have to admit...
We stayed here for two nights as we wanted to go and see the red-crowned cranes nearby.
The staff, like all Japanese hotel staff we met, were friendly and spoke enough English to get checked in and get some decent food (we ate in the Japanese restaurant in the hotel, it was good!).
The room was a decent size, beds very comfortable, and a good view of the river. We even saw two eagles sitting on the ice on the river!
For an amazing breakfast, head to the fish market near the station,...
We had a fantastic two nights in October. The staff were incredibly helpful and in particular the manager was wonderful after our car broke down - and helped us out brilliantly. We had a lake view room which was brilliant and the rooms are wonderful. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel. Lake Akan is also beautiful and wlel worth a visit ! 5 Stars
It is a bit out of the way (you would prob need to drive here which is prob why we thought it was mainly for coach tours) but for a large and well appointed hotel it was remarkably good value for the room itself (which was well appointed with lovely bathroom). We chose not to have breakfast or dinner here as that seemed expensive so made do with what we picked up earlier at a conbini on the way here :). There was a nice games area in the hotel basement and we played some table tennis there. It...
The hotel is very close to the station. The room was comfortable and good value.
Free drinks are available downstairs, but only coffee or hot water. When I asked about tea, the receptionist reacted as if I was making an unreasonable request, which I found very strange.
This hotel is located just a 5mins walk away from the Kawayu Onsen Station, but more ideal for travellers getting around with a car. Hotel is within driving distance of its surrounding attractions. The innkeeper was a very warm and friendly old man who although could hardly speak any English, won us over with his sincerity, hospitality as well as, his delicious breakfast set.
Onsen facility was rather !old and would have preferred if there were private showers in the room rather than having to...
The hotel was typical rural Japanese, the showers are shared in the onsen area (no en suite). Breakfast was served to you but was really typical Japanese (don't expect western food here).
