The Literary Man, Obidos

The room is very small. For a hotel whose concept is books it should be better lit so people could actually read? Shower pressure is good. Breakfast is average. Restaurant is overpriced with live (American) music friday and saturday night. Staff could be friendlier. Location is great but Obidos is way too touristy. No locals.

The Literary Man hotel sits just outside of the Obidos city walls - away from the throngs of tourists. Whether you are a book fan or not, this hotel is cozy and inviting, with thousands of books and unusual knick-knacks everywhere throughout the hotel. Don't bother looking for another restaurant in Obidos........The Literary Man on-site restaurant was very good and one of the employees is a mixologist, specializing in gin, which made for an interesting dining experience. They have just opened another restaurant on the main square of Obidos called The History Man, which also looked inviting. This hotel was one of our favorites on a 10-day trip to Portugal.

If you're a book-o-phile, you'll love it here. If books aren't really your thing, you'll still enjoy the creativity in using them as decor. My fave spot is the restaurant/library (with live music some evenings), followed by the breakfast bar. My room and bathroom were spacious, I had a private patio, and I quite enjoyed my stay. If I need to overnight in the area again, I'd definitely return here.

A trendy old convent converted to an Arte House Hotel.Food,wine and staff could not be faulted.Obidos is a beautiful historic town within the city wall.The Literary Man is a great base to explore Obidos and the surrounding region. Would suggest at least a 3 to 5 night stay to get the best out your holiday.

A very cozy hotel with comfortable rooms, an amazing breakfast and so close to the center. I wish I stayed there longer than just one night!
