Mizingani Seafront Hotel

Good choice

Mizingani is a very good choice in the mid price range in Stonetown. Old historical beautiful building on the seafront (no direct access, you need to cross a road). Clean, superb service, quiet and spot in the middle of Stonetown. No alcohol, but that’s easy to find else where if that’s an issue.

Decent hotel in old style

Decent Hotel with old interesting interior style. Smaller than sister hotel Tembo, but very similar in style. Paid 145$ for a family room facing the pool. AC either on or off, no remote. Safe by the reception. Breakfast was said to start 07.00, but service slow and all things up and running by 07.20-30. Quite good restaurant, but we recommend 6degrees or Luk-Mann f.ex.

The hotel was so full of old gorgeous wooden furniture and details: like rooms named after famous explorers- ours was Vasco Da Gamma... another was Freddy Mercury. Mosquito nets with patterned edging, wooden beams in the stucco ceiling, tiled tub, colored glass in bathroom window, huge thick doors, tall wooden shutters that secured out the light at bedtime. If it were for sale- I’d love to have the wooden waste basket with intricate painted design- that was in the restaurant bathroom! A big tree-ripping messy storm had just swept through the day before, so swimming pool wasn’t ready for swimming as we arrived. Just fine- lots to see eat and shop for in the immediate neighborhood. The kind front desk man upgraded our family of 4 from a pool view to a seaside view upon check-in. For free. They kindly arranged a ride to airport for us for the following day- I pre-paid 35,000 TSZ... all went well. The restaurant for dinner and the included breakfast were both very fine. I wish he had explained to us that we needed to turn on the water heater 1/2hr before a hot shower. Mine was cold- my husbands- semi-warmer- my daughters- warm. Our toilet stopped flushing mid-stay. and the lights in the room were very limited. I’m glad I had my headlamp for searching my luggage and re-packing in the room. Overall- we’d come back and recommend it to friends--definitely!

Great hotel for exploring Stone Town

I enjoyed my stay at Mizingani Sea Front. The room was large and very comfortable. Checkin was easy and quick. Breakfast was included with my room and consisted of a buffet and egg station. All the staff were friendly. Pool are was nice and felt great on the hot days. Location was walking distance to most of the things I wanted to see and convenient to the ferry dock.

Great place, close to ferry

This is a great place to stay for many reasons. Firstly it has that old world Zanzibar charm. It is an old building and its a bit creaky around the edges and occasionally a few things don't work, but it more than makes up for this in character and and charm. The staff are very helpful (sometimes a little too much as one of our bags went to the ferry port without us - quickly resolved to profuse apologies). Secondly - location. It's very close to the ferry terminal - less than 5 minute walk, has great views of the harbour and is close to the fort and one the edge of the old town. Likes: Charm, character, staff, location, breakfast overlooking the harbour. Dislike: It's a little rough in places which some people might not like, but for me this adds to the charm Try it. It's an experience. Zanzibar is becoming more sanitised and this is a reminder of what was when I first started coming here 20 years ago.

Average hotel in great location.

Great location and super friendly staff, however these are a few things we didn't like: Super hard mattress Very slow WiFi Slight smell in rooms Lots of bugs in room No sound proofing at all so we had a lot of noise come through the ceiling and walls. Food that we had from the restaurant was not great. Overall was ok, but I wouldn't rush back.
