Shakedown in Odessa, TX
I have been travelling to Midland/Odessa area three or four times per year for business for 15 years. This trip was going to be no different. I booked this room a week in advance. No issue, same as I have always booked with Hotels.com. A day before my check in day, I get a call from the hotel manager informing me that the owner told her that unless I change my booking for two nights instead of one, she has been instructed to refuse my reservation. In 15 years traveling to this area I have never encountered this tactic. In over 30 years of traveling for work, I have never encountered this tactic. If I needed to stay two days, I would have booked for two days. Lodging extortion. I thanked the manager and told her that I would secure alternative lodging for my trip. I will also make sure that I do not darken the Baymont doorstep in the future, or any other hotel that this owner has. A very shameful way to run a business. If you require a minimum of a two night stay to book a room, just indicate that at the time your customer is booking the room. Don't wait until the day before and inconvenience your customer and try to extort them into an extra night. Hotels.com should remove this lodging group from their website, or at least add a disclaimer that customers are in jeopardy of dealing with a less than honest establishment.
