Winter wonderland
Kandersteg, located in the Swiss Alps, is a true winter wonderland. The small village is surrounded by stunning mountain scenery, making it the perfect destination for a winter getaway.
Hotel Alpina sits about a 10min walk from the train station. The hotel is clean and the staff are helpful. More options for breakfast would have been nice but overall it was a great stay.
We arrived 2 days before ski season so had to venture to grindelwald where everything was also closed so best to check the weTger maps on the day and call.
During the winter months, Kandersteg transforms into a winter sports paradise. The area is home to a number of ski resorts, including the family-friendly Oeschinen and the more challenging Sunnbüel. The skiing in Kandersteg is fantastic, with well-groomed slopes and a variety of runs for all ability levels.
One of the best things about Kandersteg is its charming village center. The small town is filled with cozy restaurants and cafes, many of which serve traditional Swiss dishes. The local food and drink are a highlight of any visit to Kandersteg, and the friendly locals are always happy to recommend their favorite spots.
