Super friendly staff and a comfy stay

I was visiting Forres for a work event and needed a hotel nearby. The Carlton was lovely. The staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming; check in was a breeze. The room was super clean and had all the amenities you needed. The bed was excellent and very comfy. Would thoroughly recommend this excellent hotel which is great value for money.

We tried to save a little money by staying here and I guess we got what we paid for. The room was sparse, the mattress was uncomfortable, the room was too warm, and it was noisy. There is no parking on premises, but free parking down the road. Breakfast was fine, and the checkout was easy.

Low cost stay so didn't expect luxury, but a few basic things were lacking e.g. breakfast took 20 mins to be served, mattresses were flimsy, the room smelled of smoke and the carpet was not fully hoovered The vibe I get is extreme cost cutting, which is a shame if it's needed to stay in business - but it does show in the service

I enjoyed my stay. Staff were pleasant. There was a difference in the price charged by Hotels .com and the receipt from the hotel. The hotel explained they had given me a receipt for what they were charging. I would have to go back to Hotels.com regarding the difference which they could explain.

The hotel/pub looks like an 'old man's pub' but the rooms are very comfortable and clean. The breakfast was very tasty and Claire was amazingly helpful and friendly by pointing out the best places to eat.

Really great staff and comfortable stay. There are stairs and no lift so it’s not suitable for people with physical disability. It takes time to get the water running hot but the place was quite nice and much better than I expected from the ratings. Breakfast was not that great but the complementary drinks and coffee machine in the room was a nice bonus.

Lovely old building, very comfy bed. Right on the high street. Amazing staff. It was quite noisy until the bar closed but it meant we had the chance to meet the friendly locals and have a few drinks. Great weekend break.

Always stay at the Charlton, 3-4 times a year. Every visit is the same.. warm, welcoming and a feel of home away from home. Staff are great, facilities perfect, location great and parking at rear. Go for the Comfort Room (4 poster bed) as the rooms are bigger, comfier and comes with great facilities.

Hôtel ancien, qui mérite d’être remis à neuf. Très bruyant. Le personnel est sympathique et nous a offert un petit présent ainsi que des bouilles quies. Petit déjeuner correct mais très lent. L’hôtel a son charme, bâtiment extérieur très jolie, assez pittoresques à l’intérieur, on se perdrait dans les dédales de couloir. Après restauration et insonorisation l’hôtel serait top.

Decent sleep, but skip the breakfast

The rooms are clean and comfortable, though a bit noisy late at night (but they gave earplugs…). No lift, so did have a lot of stairs to climb. The main disappointment was the breakfast. Poor quality food, overcooked, wrong items, and scarcity of food on buffet. Staff were friendly and helpful; checkout was easy.
