We had a very nice stay at the hotel last weekend. A college friend and I try to meet up for a few days twice a year to catch up with each other.
We chose this hotel for the history and location. We met in the lobby and it was as nice as the photos. Even though we were early for check in- the front desk was very accommodating and within 1/2 an hour we had our room, unpacked and left to go exploring.
I had lived in Dubuque during the 1970’s so I was able to catch up on all the changes to the area since that time.
The room was good - the only issue was the toilet paper holder fell and needed some maintenance.
The beds were both clean and comfortable, we didn’t have too much noise from the streets below and slept soundly.
We had no particular agenda but visited the Stone cliff bar, the casinos, shot tower, Europa German restaurant, stores downtown and the lock and dam #11. Also took trips to Platteville, the beer museum in Potosi and grotto in Dickeyville.
Galena is close but we have stayed there numerous times in past years so we didn’t visit this trip.
The only thing I was surprised we could not find was Sly Stallone’s hand prints on the sidewalk downtown from the movie FIST.
