Seagulls. Seagulls and more seagulls. All night noise

Don't stay here. The walls in our room were filthy. As if a drink had been thrown on them months/years ago and it was never cleaned. Windows were covered in seagull poo and the noise from nesting seagulls on the building was incredibly loud. The main lights in our room didn't work so had to use the lamps. Overall, it's a shame this place is so shabby and dirty on the inside, because it is an interesting building and has a lot of history. Needs a good deep clean all over and completely redecorating. Not a very pleasant experience and wouldn't stay again.

Check in experience was over 1 hour and then the rooms were not suitable for my disabled father - we were placed on the top floor and only access was via a lift - one lift out of action on a busy weekend ! Walk along a poorly signposted corridor with fire doors and a mobility walker was to say very challenging They did supply a new cooling fan in the room to help cool it down in the heatwave No toiletries supplied other than I small soap However there were Clean towels and bedding Breakfast was very poor which looked like staffed by only two people who were visibly and verbally frustrated and unwelcoming We have stayed in the Royal hotel before, round the corner, so won’t be going back to the Grand again Such a shame as with the right management The Grand has so much potential and its location is superb

Booked 6 months in advance and paid £193 so was expecting a decent room. Checked in online to prevent a que at arrival as online checkin said I could now just go to quick key collection. Upon arrival had to wait in long que and go through all the details again, was asked for photo ID, didn't bring any as I had already checked in! I did manage to show a photo of my driving licence on my phone so I was allowed access! What a waste of my time checking in online then again at the hotel. The hotel was advertising rooms on the day for £85 but having paid over £100 more I was extremely annoyed at the room we got - I have never had such a small room EVER. It was literally just over a bed width wide and pushed up against the wall - I have to pull the bed out and cover most of the door just to allow my wife to get in from her side. No room for bedside table or lamps. A very warm evening and the windows did not open more than a few inches, a fan was provided and boy did we need it. In the bathroom we had one toilet roll plonked on the washbasin no holder and no second roll backup - I honestly cannot remember not having a second backup roll in any hotel EVER. The whole room was awful and should not be offered for sale. At breakfast, the orange juice ran out, then the apple juice ran out then the eggs ran out - yes we were told all eggs had been used but they were trying to get more in.....what 9am and no eggs - you have to be joking!!! We will never use Britannia again.

Hotel entrance lounge very nice with lovely chairs relaxing .The room we had was clean ,decor bit bland,dark wood funiture,couldnt open windows,bed comfortable. Breakfast was basic ,thin sliced bread for toast ,hash browns not nice,qulity poor would pay more for better quality

It is what it is. Fabulous hotel with amazing views. Communal areas have so much history. Drinks are very expensive, but it’s what you’d expect in a hotel. The rooms are dated, but very comfortable and perfectly adequate. Good value for money! Only one complaint, had to queue for over 30 minutes to book in and get key. Other than that a great stay!

I am well travelled and this is the most disgusting room I’ve ever stayed in. How any hotelier thinks the room is acceptable please see the pictures. The room smelt strange the wallpaper was hanging off the walls. Damp patches everywhere. Furniture hanging off the wall. Please contact the hotel and request a refund

Terrible would not recommend and would like a refund! Arrived at 3.30pm after checking in online and being told to collect key from reception. Queued for over an hour as very old fashioned system had gone down and was told couldn’t check in despite already checking in online as the printer had broken! Finally got to dirty room full of flies with only half an hour to get ready for our concert. It was daylight so we quickly changed and left the hotel to have a drink elsewhere on way to venue as the hotel bar till was down also. Got back to the room at 11.30pm to find none of the lights worked so went to bed in darkness constantly swatting flies off us. Couldn’t ring reception to inform them of the issues as no phone in room and couldn’t open window to get rid of flies! As it was late couldn’t be bothered walking back to reception so went to sleep which was poor due to the noisiness of the hotel. Will NOT be staying for breakfast and will be demanding full refund! Worst place I’ve ever stayed especially considering the price!

The room on the 6th (top) floor was comfortable enough for one night, decent bed and bath. However, bath plug got stuck and took a while to get it out following a bath. Also, the windows are not very well insulated so there is a lot, lots, lots of wind noise as well as seagulls which could also be heard. I guess that's because of the age of the hotel. I think it probably does need a bit of modernizing but that's rather costly?

This is a cheap scummy hotel which has seen better days (about 100years ago) It is very cheap and so it should be judged as such and for what it is it is very good value. We had a see view room, in a low floor, as requested and probably the best hotel view out of any hotel I have ever stayed at. Dog friendly (which was a major reason to stay here) and car parking immediately outside, which is very good for a seaside resort. Would definitely return - £49 for Sunday and £44 for a Monday - though I did upgrade to having a window . £10 / night extra for a dog wi=hich is also great value.

I would not recommend to stay here. It looks a lovely hotel from outside but once we got there it took three quarters of an hour to book in. There was a main reception desk which was extremely slow. When we got to our room there was no shower gel in the dispenser, the decor and doors were in very poor condition. There was a hole in the bedroom wall. No biscuits with tea and coffee facilities.when we returned later after the concert we went to, we went to bed around midnight and could not sleep for constant noise going on. There were seagulls nesting on the building and were constantly making noise and a power washer went off at 4am in the morning. Therefore neither i or my husband could sleep so consequently left at 6am.I tried ringing desk at 4am but no one answered. The cost of the stay was £159.00 for the night which was extremrly expensive for what we had to put up with. Very, very unhappy.
