Pleasant place for a laid back family vacation.

The Occidental Tamarindo is one of a handful of All Inclusives in Costa Rica. Keep in mind if you’re looking for a Mexican Style “let’s get wasted resort” this is not what you’re looking for. The pace is relaxed and the food at the buffets is local style. If you want steak It’s good but it’s also Not tender like American/Canadian beef. They rate the resort 4/5 stars, really what you have are rooms that would be 3’s, they are ample size comfortable and clean but they were never finished with that 5star building quality to warrant 5 stars. The service is friendly and upbeat, but also laid back. The pool is excellent as is the beach area. Great tours depart from the area and it’s a wonderful place for a great family vacation or couples trip

Occidental Tamarindo Stay

The check in process was not the best. I arrived at 12:30pm and didn’t get a room until 430pm. Thankfully Stephanie at the front desk was able to get me a room at 430pm so I could prepare for sabbath. I got a floor on the first floor and then Stephanie was able to get me a room on a higher floor after sunset on Saturday. I was a bit surprised that as gold members I couldn’t get early check in nor could I get late checkout. The rooms weren’t very clean, in the first room, the shower pooled with water and the water didn’t drain very well. The second room it was better but the bed sheets were wrinkled and the bed wasn’t very comfortable. The food at the hotel was excellent. I really liked the food and the variety. The snacks were limitless and the beach was also nice. Amazing sunsets. The beach seemed to stretch forever close to the airport and close to activities.

This property is very average. Nothing really unique or great. We where a group of 9 people celebrating 3 birthdays. I made reservation at the a la carte and requested some special B-day cakes, but we got nothing. Also, the regular dining room didn't accommodate seating for 9 and when we arranged the tables ourselves to sit together, we got told that's not allowed. One more thing: if you're a smoker don't go to this resort

A great family atmosphere at the resort. The location of the resort is right on Langosta beach with gorgeous sunsets and crashing waves. The food is average. The drinks are average and served in paper cups so bring an insulated cup with you. The resort is very clean and the staff are very polite and hard working. The grounds are safe and the gardens are lovely. I would gladly stay at this resort again.

Our experience here was great, however all issues we had were with the dining area and staff. When they ran out of an item like coffee, creamer, plates, beer, etc, they didn't get replenished. Staff would say they ran out. They seemed to be short-staffed. Also, the 7:00pm dining time is late for those who get up early. 6:00pm would have been better. We ended up eating out every night rather than waiting. Food was sub-par. We were sick one night from the hamburgers in the snack area being undercooked. The self-serve beer was great but we only had it 2 days and then it was "broken". Lines at the snack bar for alcoholic drinks were very long and the drinks were very diluted. Other than that, we had a nice time and a beautiful view from our room. Lots of good restaurants in the area.

The property is beautiful, the pool and beach are great, short uber to town cost about $6, lots of shops and great food. They say they include 2 nights at an Italian or Japanese restaurant but you have to make reservations, do it soon as possible or you may not be get in. They clean your room daily, they give 1 or 2 waters for the day, and sometimes forget to leave coffee. Go to the front desk and land they will send more to your room. There is a cold water dispenser by the bar. Bring a big tumbler for ice, cold water and beer. There is no pool side service for drinks. This is a self service property. You get your food and drinks. Overall the food is good. If your a want 5 star treatment don’t stay here. The grounds are 5 star, the rooms, food and service is 3 star at best.

Got to the room and no hot water and washcloths. Hairdryer didn't work had to fix safe.The food was disgusting.

The place was dirry ans the staff were rude. They would not give you a bottle of water if you asked at the feont desk they would make you go all the way back to your room. Thwre were nultiple buildings and allbwere run down. The air conditioning did not work in the rooms and the dining was outside. Flies were on the food and it waa not kept hot.

Overall I thought it was great, the location was about a mile and a half to Tamarindo, but that’s okay I like walking. The food was good too, I wish they had more variety during dinner at the grill though. It was mostly pork chops every time I went. They had steak and chicken two days, I was there for 7 days. Overall it was a great experience and I’d definitely go back.

Alles in allem ein Gutes Preis Leistung Verhältnis und eine sehr gute Speisenauswahl. Vor allem wenn man bedenkt, dass Essengehen in Costa Rica nicht sehr günstig ist. Der Strand am Hotel sieht toll aus, ist aber zum Baden nicht geeignet, nur für mutige Surfer. Zum schonen Strand kann man spazieren in 20 bis 30 Minuten oder man schnappt sich ein uber fur 3-4 dollar

The location of this property and the pool area was great. Outside of that, it was pretty disappointing. My room was next to a very loud band every night from 8:30pm on. The food was by far the worst. Hardly any selection and the little selection there was really bad. The area was beautiful but I would definitely not recommend this hotel.

It as laid out very well and easy to find things. The house band was awesome and super friendly. The lack of English was surprising and the shows at night were almost entirely in Spanish. We would definitely recommend learning Spanish bf going. The beach is a surfing beach and rocky ( lava rock) not like the pitures. I fell and cut open both knees on a tour and the resort had alcohol , cotton and only little bandaides. My cuts were large so this was useless . I felt for a resort this was highly inadequate. The resort was extremely clean and the cleaning staff were awesome !!! The alcohol is definitely watered down . I purchased my own bottle of tequila and would add it to my drink when I had one. We heard lots of complaints from guests about the watered down drinks .

Beautiful, well-maintained grounds 2 floor duplex suite was spacious with great housekeeping & minibar service Plenty of loungers by pool & beach House band & entertainment staff were talented & fun Food & beverage options were 3 star - limited & repetitive

This property is nothing like what it is described as online. There is only one main resteraunt for breakfast, lunch & dinner and the food was not good at all. The hot dogs looked super old. They they don’t serve food after 10pm which is absurd. Every all inclusive resort i went to I’ve never experienced that. Usually there’s a snack bar that stays open but there snack bar closed at 7. They charged for certain liquors. They served drinks with only paper cups. They had an Italian restaurant and a Japanese restaurant that you could choose to make a reservation from. We chose Japanese but you could only get certain items of the menu, certain things you had to pay for. Every other inclusive resort I’ve traveled to I’ve never encountered that before. Everyone around the property acted as if they didn’t speak English when we were in need of help. Some of the people on the property was nice though. It really was a bad experience all around and i was there for 5 days. An i forgot to mention the A/c leaked the entire time it was on.
