Whether you opt for a glass-bottomed boat tour, kitesurfing, snorkelling, surfing, or diving, you’ll be able to discover colourful sea life, coral reefs, and shipwrecks.
Located in the northwest of Mauritius, near Grand Baie, Mont Choisy Beach is also known for its sporting scene. With beach football, volleyball, and horseback riding, there is plenty to do to let off steam and have fun with friends. One of Mauritius’ best golf courses, Mont Choisy Le Golf, is nearby if you fancy a quick round. Make sure you’ve got your camera with you to capture all in the fun in a beautiful setting.

Flic En Flac Beach

With 8 kilometres of white sand stretching before you, Flic En Flac Beach is the ideal place for an early morning run, a romantic sunset stroll, or to switch off and relax. It’s also a great spot for spotting local wildlife with the opportunity to snorkel in coral reefs, swim with dolphins, or whale watch.
Located around a 30-minute drive from Port Louis, here the filao trees provide a natural source of shade, giving you the ideal shelter to kick back with a book. Flic En Flac is also one of Mauritius more commercialized beaches, with lots of street food stalls available offering the freshest sea food. It’s worth wearing sea shoes here due to hidden sea urchins and rocks under foot.

Tamarin Beach

A secluded sandy cove, Tamarin Beach is ideal for surfing whether you’re a first-timer or an expert. In particular, Dal and Black Stone are renowned surf spots with ideal wave conditions. Tamarin Beach is also relatively undeveloped, so its natural beauty is unspoiled.
Located in the Black River area, Tamarin Beach is also a natural canvas for any budding photographers. With sparkling waves, the allure of a dolphin’s fin and fiery sunsets, you’ll find a perfect shot in every direction you turn. To stretch your legs, we recommend embarking on the scenic walking route between Tamarin Beach and Southern Wolmar, which is inaccessible by car.

Le Morne Beach

With incredible wind conditions at the south-western tip of Mauritius, Le Morne Beach attracts windsurfers and kite surfers all year round. If you want to get involved, you can either bring your own equipment or hire or book courses via the ION bus. If that’s not your style, you can enjoy watching the people on the water catch the wind with the stunning Morne Le Brabant Mountain as a backdrop.
Located on the west coast of Mauritius, the atmosphere is very relaxed, allowing you to switch off easily. While it’s not overly commercialized, there are local street food stands you can refuel at as you watch the action on the waves. The beach is easily accessible with parking nearby and public toilets and showers.

La Cuvette Beach

A smaller, more secluded bay, La Cuvette Beach is more sheltered than some of the other Mauritian beaches. This creates safe and fun swimming conditions for the whole family. The waters here are relatively shallow and clear, meaning even young children can enjoy this beach safely. You can also rent diving equipment here if you want to explore what’s under the surface.
Around a 10-minute drive from Grand Baie, La Cuvette is popular with locals and tourists alike. Many local families spend the weekend on the beach with a picnic. There are also several snack bars available if you need a little extra food, offering local curries, fresh seafood, snacks, and fresh fruit.

Pereybere Beach

Pereybere Beach is one of the most popular family beaches due to the calm, shallow waters. With a large, separate swimming area, children can swim safely while parents relax in the shade or chill out on a rented sun lounger. This relaxed vibe also creates a friendly and authentic atmosphere which is echoed in the food offerings: fresh coconuts and pineapples, ice cream, and local specialities abound.
Located in Pereybere and accessible by car, foot, or public transport, it’s also a great spot for water sports. The snorkelling here is particularly good, but you can also take a glass-bottomed boat tour, water ski, kayak, or canoe. Make sure you don’t miss the spectacular sunsets.

Gris Gris Beach
An untamed and wild beach

While Mauritius is known for its idyllic, white sand beaches and coral reefs, Gris Gris Beach gives you a glimpse into the wilder side of Mauritius. As there are no coral reefs here, the waves can freely crash upon the stunning cliffs, creating dramatic scenery. In particular, the La Roche Qui Pleure (Weeping Rock) is an incredible rock formation formed over years.
Located in the village of Souillac, a 1-hour drive from Port Louis, it is secluded and more rugged than other nearby beaches. There are even secret caves and hidden waterfalls you can explore – just remember to take your insect repellent with you. Please be aware that it is not safe to swim at Gris Gris due to the strong currents.

Blue Bay Beach

A stunning crescent-shaped bay, Blue Bay Beach offers warm, shallow waters and pristine sands suitable for the whole family. It is also located very close to the Blue Bay Marina, an ocean reserve which is one of the best spots for diving and snorkelling in the country. You’ll be able to see some of Mauritius’ unique sea life and an impressively large coral table.
Located close to Mahebourg in the southeast of the island, Blue Bay is a place of stunning natural beauty. Close to the Ile aux Aigrettes natural reserve, you’ll be able to look across to the horizon where sea-green waters meet soaring mountains. Visit during the week and you may have the beach to yourself.

If you’re looking for a quieter, more natural beach, consider visiting Poste Lafayette. Surrounded by volcanic rocks, this beach retains its rustic charm and will make you feel like you’re a world away from reality. The craggy rocks along the shoreline create an interesting landscape and add to the beach’s atmosphere.
Just a few kilometres from Black Rocks on the southeast coast, Poste Lafayette is in quite a windy spot on the island. This means that, just like Le Morne Beach, it is renowned for its kite and wind surfing conditions. Please be aware that you cannot swim at Poste Lafayette Beach due to the high winds and powerful waves.
