Charm stops at the front desk
Though location is great right on the bend the front desk staff makes this a very uncomfortable hotel. The rooms are large for China but they are kept wat to warm and the WiFi strength is very poor. I can’t recommend this hotel

Great view but bathroom tired looking
The room itself was good size & clean, however the bathroom is in need or renovating. Whilst the bathroom was clean, there were sign of mould in the silicone, plus some fittings either didn't work or were coming away from the walls. Good view from the hotel for the Bund albeit the windows were dirty on the outside, but if you want to see more of the Pudong skyscrapers you have to tweak your head or just walk to the stairs. There's a sectioned off walkway just outside to get some good pics too. The Bund is walkable distance & about a 10-15 min walk to nearest metro.

Great rooms, and great location!!
Loved the view from my room. Almost magical. The Bund is a great place to exercise every morning, enjoy a nice run, and watch the locals flying their kites, and do Thai Chi.
The only issue with this hotel is the communication. The staff doesn’t speak English, and sometimes this can be troublesome.
The property needs to be updated, but it is still a great place to stay, because of the great views!!

Great location, disappointing staff and billing
We loved the location and views of the Shanghai skyline from our room. The location and view could not be beat. I am disappointed in the reception desk staff. We were charged for a rollout bed even though we had paid for a room for 3 adults. The staff was rude to put it mildly. They walked away and ignored us rather than discuss the siutation. They did the same when we asked about documentation of our deposit return. This is no wa to treat guests.

Enjoy the View of Shanghai
This is an older hotel BUT in an excellent location on the Huangpu River separating Old Shanghai from Pudong ( new Shanghai). It is easily walk able to the Bund and a short ride under the river to Pudong. The service was VERY accommodating and they solved any problems we had at once. (We had booked a city view instead of River view. They moved us and put us on a higher floor I highly recommend this hotel for it's views, service and availability to all sites

Hotel needs repairs
Hotel is in an excellent location but needs to be cleaned. Carpeting on 3rd and 4th floor were filthy with dark tracks from elevator to each room. I opened curtains to see what should have been a breathtaking view and the windows were covered in crud on the inside!
One room had no bar items and the other had exploded coke can and mess still in it. Changed rooms because ours would not get above 80

Seagull
The language barrier was strong. The room was ok. We weren't able to regulate the temp. Breakfast buffet was good. The staff was helpful if they understood us. The view from the room was breathtaking. Great location!

Overall experience good. Buffet breakfast good. The only complaint was the slow internet service to the point that it sometimes did not work at all. Since it was free the security was nonexistent. No CNN on the TV

Not luxury but excellent location
Excellent location. Hotel a little tired and bathrooms in need of deep clean or modernisation. Towels and bed linen good. Breakfasts plentiful but cold. Reasonable VFM given the views from the windows and the proximity of all major attractions

WORST HOTEL EVER. Read before booking!
Seriously the WORST hotel I’ve ever stayed in. We tried numerous times to ask them to pick us up from the Shanghai train station and they wouldn’t. So we figured we would try our best to navigate a taxi upon arrival. We got a taxi and asked to take us to the hotel, he couldn’t understand so we decided to call the hotel and ask them to talk to the taxi driver. After getting transferred 6 times back and forth, they acted like I hadn’t even reserved a room yet. Kept asking if I was staying for one night or two, so on and so forth. The taxi driver was getting frustrated and decided to leave. The hotel was of NO help to us and we “felt” stranded a mile and a half away with 5 bags in hand. Fast forward to our arrival at the hotel and it is in the worst location possible. Looks as though it’s behind a dark alley with trash surrounding and in order to get inside you have to walk through a group of 20 smokers literally standing RIGHT outside the front door. Not to mention, the whole hotel is “apparently” smoke free but our room smelt as though someone was under the best lighting cigarette after cigarette all night long. We got zero sleep. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel on my worst enemy it’s seriously THAT bad. 0/5 stars, and I’ve never given anything that in my entire life.

Family stay at Seagull
My stay at Seagull was pleasant and comfortable. The only suggestion I have is possibly providing lotion in the room.

Hotel on the North Bund
the hotel location was good but the hotel had a musty smell from the time you walk in.
the room had a great view and with a little work the hotel could be great again.

Great location, poor upkeep
Couldn't have booked a better location to see the Bund. So close as just a walking distance across a small bridge. Hotel staff were pleasant and spoke very fluent English. Rooms are not well maintained beyond the bed and toilet. When I shut the bathroom door there was a HUGE wad of hair that had built up showing how the rooms are not cleaned well. This was the case for other parts of the room. I went to plug in my phone behind a side table and you could see how dusty it had gotten in behind. I couldn't run bathwater - only have a shower in my room which they made a faint attempt to fix in the three days I was there. They did offer to move me but to a different floor, and not the king sized bed I had booked. I ended up going to my friends room to have a bath....original hair dryers on the walls and not convenient to use. Need to upgrade. Breakfast buffet was one of the worst I've ever had in my travels. The cooked food was not of good quality. If you can put all of this aside, this hotel has great value for the location.

PERFECT LOCATION IN SHANGHAI
I stayed here in 2010 and chose it again not only because it has a fine view of the Bund but it is very close to the cruise ship terminal & we had arrived by ship from Hong Kong.
We took an Executive Suite and it is much bigger but actually they are on the 4th & 5th floors, whilst the Scenic Standard rooms are on the 9 -11th floors & maybe have a better view of the Bund & illuminations !
Either way it is worth paying the small extra for the Bund view.
My only comment would be that they are a bit difficult to get hold of directly.
( Essential to take small supply of toilet paper when ever you go out as restaurants do not supply it ! - even the good ones ! )
