Comfortable stay
Hotel Greven is a smaller hotel to the east of Hamburg center. The hotel is comfy and reasonably priced. A nice stiff mattress and a good size shower room. The hotel feels a bit detached, although it's actually only about 10 minutes from Burgstrasse underground station, but the immediate area doesn't have much more than a few shops. Hamburg city center is about another 10 minutes on the train. Greven is a good bet for someone travelling on a mid sized budget who doesn't need luxury.

AVOID! I won't be back, and I wouldn't wish my worst enemy to stay here. I've only given it 1 star because you can't go any lower, but I feel the housekeeping seem to have done a good job given the conditions. Took over 30 minutes to check in as the person at reception didn't know how to look for an Expedia booking and the person who did was away watching football. Had booked a double room but was given a single, they changed it to a double which stank of stale cigarette smoke with various broken fittings. Then there was no hot water so I left the shower running to see if any came through but it flooded the bathroom as the shower drain was blocked so it overflowed. The basin drain was also blocked. After reporting it there was hot water in the morning but it would have been nice to have a shower before bed. I slept ok despite the pillow being very uncomfortable (akin to sleeping on a sack of potatoes). Unless you like being miserable, stay elsewhere.

The hotel was better than I had expected based on reading previous reviews. I was pleasantly surprised. The WiFi was good and there was no issues with temperatures as it was 20 degrees outside. It was nice to have the fridge in the room. The one complaint that I would have is that the desk and chair height were not really compatible until I got a cushion to sit on. Other than that everything was fine and the value was great. The staff were friendly too.

Surrounding is at night not safe and the room condition was not the best - also the smell in the room was quite uncomfortable.

It is clean, but they wrongfully put King Bed in the AD, where there is no King Bed in any rooms when I checked in. The manager is not available 24 hours daily. When I checked in at 3pm, I had to call and waited 15 mins before the manager was showed up. There was no coffee available in the room. There was no cleaning service during our 3-days stay.

Avoid
Just barely ok for one night. I won't be going back. The toilet had not been cleaned and the previous guest obviously had very poor aim. On the plus side, a surprisingly tasty breakfast and no bed bugs

I like the breakfast and the staff friendliness. Surprised to see there was no air condition in my room during such hot/summer season.

Staff tried hard and actually brought out food after we had slept through breakfast. Minimal amenities (no A/C). They tidied up the room each day, but wasn’t a thorough cleaning and towels were not replaced during our 7 day stay. Bug marks on the wall should be cleaned.

Small Hotel for Comfort Stay
The hotel was near a canal in Hamburg. It was a small hotel and our rooms were located downstairs near the edge of it. There were only limited free parking spaces belong to the hotel just outside the entrance at the street side. Although the reception area was quite tiny, we were warmly greeted by the staff upon our arrival. As there were not any restaurants nearby, we had our dinner near the riverside before check in.

Average location, terrible WiFi, spider problem...
As soon as we checked in, we opened the window in our room to let in some air (as there is no air-conditioning) and multiple spiders fell into the room. We were given a vacuum cleaner to sort it out ourselves. Only then were we told by staff that there was a spider infestation. There was no air-conditioning in the room, so having no windows open made it uncomfortable. Bugs and insects were on the ceiling and in webs. The WiFi was unusable in our room for the entire stay and only worked in public common areas. We left our room between 11am/12pm each day and it was never attended to by housekeeping.

Had a night in family room. It was large and with a kitchen. However the windows had been open for a long time due to the heat (no aircon available), so there were many big spiders in the rooms. Also the kitchen was unclean. When we finally could go to steep we could hear the traffic wery loud. Turns out that we were about 10 meters from the road. Even with closed windows it was loud. Met other people on the hotel that could not hear the traffic, but they could hear the piping make noice. Breakfast was “ok” but some of the roolls were from yesterday and there was no butter (only becel margarine)

Very nice budget hotel
The Hotel Greven is a nice, small hotel located in a quiet neighborhood. It is just a 5 minute walk to the subway. The main Hamburg railstation was just 2 stops from their to get to the heart of the city. The manager and staff were all polite and quite helpful with helping me get around Hamburg. Strong, free WiFi connection in the room and well stocked free breakfast in the morning. A nice, small and clean hotel at a very reasonable price.

Comfortable cosy and warm
Room is good and comfortable. Lot of choice in the breakfast. The only criticism is the room was too warm. So had to turn off the heating.

Great for a quick pit-stop in Hamburg city centre
The hotel staff was friendly and check-in was fast and stress-free. The room was as expected and the bathroom facilities were fine - plenty of hot water! Overall, the hotel is good value for money.
