Dirty rooms and hallways. Beds have been used before and sheets not changed. You walk down the hallways and the doors to the bedrooms are wide open with hords of men hanging out and smoking. I really think this is a rent by the hour kind of hotel. There is a spa downstairs for 25 yuan which is separate from the hotel. That part is clean and delightful. You can just pay for that, shower and be on your way. Not worth spending the night in Datong. It is an industrial city.

Excellent value for money
The hotel is very generously laid out. Our twin room was spacious, with very comfortable beds and excellent mattresses. The room had many extra amenities, like dressing gowns, bottles water, an outfit to wear to the public baths and sauna. However, some of the amenities were out of order, like the safe and the hairdryer. Also the room was not spotlessly clean but fine. The staff was very friendly but didn't speak English at all. All in all we got more than we had bargained for at this hotel and would definitely recommend it!

Convenient but not so clean hotel
The only issue I had was the cleanliness of the room, floor not vacuumed and hair in the bed clothes. Otherwise everything else seemed above average. Good for being close to the train station.

Great price, good location and brilliant staff
Very few people in Datong speak >English and this applies to the hotel reception staff. Despite this however, the staff are amazingly helpful and try everything possible to assist you - even dragging all their colleagues into the conversation and using their own mobile devices to help you translate. Nothing is too much trouble for them and when all else fails, the Manager is available - he is brilliantly helpful and speaks (and writes)very confident english. The hotel room was nice and large but had no window - not a big deal, but if you want a window, then we were offered a lovely room with a communal shower. The communal shower area is extraordinary - very large with spas, sauna, showers and massages. Great way to end the day. The beds are quite firm (this IS China after all) and the breakfast is primarily Chinese. As a `whitey`I was a novelty in Datong and you need to get used to stares and points from kids but everyone is extremely friendly and tries to help. One final thing - do not flush toilet paper down the loo - use the bin next to it - like 90% of all regional hotels, the toilet will block if you flush paper down it

Great buffet.
If you speak Chinese the staff are really friendly. They are helpful and friendly. The buffet are awesome, simple but good. Bring together all the great local dishes in a simple place.
