The staff was helpful in answering questions and making recommendations regarding all things related to the island. The breakfast staff was exceptionally friendly. Room was comfortable and clean and kitchen utilities in the room were much appreciated.

Average
Nice enough hotel, room was quite nice. I felt that the amenities listed were very misleading. There’s not a gym ( and that’s highly important for me) it’s a block down and costs 11 euros a day still. Bare basics of kitchenette. EVERY thing is extra charge per day rental from coffee pot, toaster, kettle etc. I feel this is ridiculous for a 4 star rating and the price point. Staff was average for the exception of Isabelle at the pool bar who was spectacular and also Ruben was great too.

2/10 Poor

BED BUGS!!!!!!!!!! me and my friend stayed for 3 nights at this hotel, and I woke up with 30 bites all over my legs, and I assumed they were mosquito bites, however I woke up during the night at 3.30am the next day and saw the bed was crawling with bed bugs, and I have pictures where they were hiding, in the cracks of the bed board. I spoke with reception who said they would clean the beds, but this is unusual because they are new beds. I’m sorry but my photos show evidence. Don’t book unless you don’t mind them crawling all over you during the night, and itching all day on holiday.

Great Hotel, good location, friendly service!
The hotel was superb value for our money! We rented a small suite and requested one on a high floor with unobstructed sea view. The hotel complied. The location is excellent, close to the water but also close to a modern shopping mall. There is excellent local bus service very close by for getting to and around Madeira. In addition they have a beautiful restaurant with excellent food. After trying it out the first night, we had dinner there every night of our stay, although there are lots of other restaurants around. The clientele appeared to be mostly from Scandinavian and Baltic countries, but the employees we encountered spoke good English.. Very friendly and helpful service whenever we had a request, no hidden or unexpected charges, a real find! Madeira itself has become a lot more "touristy" (last visit was almost 20 years ago) but it is still a very charming place. .

The hotel was over booked!
The hotel was over booked and I was transferred to an alternative hotel The Jardins D'Ajuda. The Duas Torres did arrange a taxi and promised that the alternative hotel was comparable and the booking arrangements would be the same.I had an unpleasant experience when I was told I would have to pay for breakfasts after a couple of days.It took a morning to resolve.I contacted Hotels.com and had a positive response.

Great hotel with fantastic sea views.
The rooms were very spacious and had everything you needed. Some lovely welcoming surprises, flowers, fruit, wine and chocolates. All the staff were very friendly and helpful and the hotel situated opposite a large shopping centre.

Service was a big minus.
They wanted to charge my son almost 400 dollars extra for breakfast for my grandson(4) and granddaughter (7) even having the reservation saying that it included breakfast for free for all of them. Also when my son was checking out, they wanted to charge him an extra night for no reason. He had to show them again the reservation dates, and argue a bit before leaving the hotel.

beautiful views
Booked a late deal and paid for an upgrade to sea view room. Worth every penny, the rooms are spacious and comfortable with large balcony. Views spectacular (room 505) the only down side is the kitchenette is not well equiped. Asked for a toaster and when we booked out they charged us 7 euros for it and also 7 euros for using the safe. It's only a small amount but left us with a bad taste after a very pleasing holiday.

Very good value hotel with parking
Our room had a lovely sea view from balcony. Kitchen in room was great for self catering and picnics. Good supermarket just over road. Our floor had recently been refurbished and was new and clean. Large, good shower.

Hotel Duas Torres - good value basic hotel
We were initially disappointed at the poor cleanliness of the room. However after informing reception and going out for the evening we came back to find the room had been better cleaned. It was about an hours walk to the heart of Funchal, which was fine for us but a little tiring sometimes. There were plenty of cheap buses and taxis passing the hotel though for those less active. There was a shopping centre opposite with great clothes shops and a big supermarket. It was easy to pick up the promenade, which was has a nice, lively atmosphere with cafes, bars, playgrounds and nice views out to sea. Also some great restaurants nearby including Il Basilico just off the promenade, where we ate on new years eve and Fora D'Oras which did an excellent yet affordable Bife na Padra [fillet steak on a hot stone]. We also had an amazing view from our 11th floor balcony of the NYE fireworks. One of the best things we did was walk from the hotel along the Levada dos Piornais. We didn't bother paying for a guided levada walk, and it was really easy to find and follow the water course though the villages to the mountains - stunning walk and great exercise.

Great place to spend New Year's Eve
Funchal is famous for their holiday fireworks display and this hotel has a rooftop view that is thrilling. Their kitchenette room was well stocked to allow the traveler to make their own food if they would like to save a few dollars by eating in. The town does have good restaurants however. We would absolutely recommend this hotel to others visiting Madeira.

Great hotel for every one
I read other people experience of the hotel before I did my booking. All the good comments I read about the hotel were found to be very true. I also read couple of negative comments - shower difficult to adjust; kitchen could have been better equipped, etc. Fortunately, I did not experience these. All was good beyond my expectation. All rooms ending in 5, 6 and 7 have good ocean view. I stayed in a room ending in 5 (It has 75% ocean view and 25% Funchal city view). I loved it better than rooms ending in 6 & 7 (i.e. 100% ocean view which can be thick dark view in the evening). The hotel is located halfway between the airport and funchal city. Therefore, the hotel area has better temperature than both sides (There is always gale wind in areas towards airport and less air breath in Funchal). I understand VAT has increased recently from 4% to 22%. Therefore, eating in a restaurant has become relatively very expensive. The hotel equipped kitchen and the big supermarket across the road is great help to minimise expense. The ocean pedestrian walk starts behind the hotel and ends in Funchal. It is aprox 1.5 hours (one way) walk. It is about Euro 10 by taxi. The walk has very spectacular views - not only Ocean view but also parks. Having said all the above, I would like to say if the hotel cleaners were friendly, at least greet back when I say hello, it would have been wonderful. I don’t think they are aware of their personality impact on hotel’s reputation.

We like it here
We have stayed in Madeira around 10 times, 5 of them here, so why do we choose it? It is clean, has a large lounge as well as the bedroom. It has limited cooking facilities and a good sized fridge so you can make the odd meal if you wanted. We have stayed in the 5* hotels, but prefer this. If you are looking for carpets and luxury you may not enjoy the Duas Torres, but if you want a good, simple hotel you can't go wrong. There is a bustop right outside the hotel and Madieran busses are cheap, reliable and fun. From the hotel you can walk into town - about 45 mins, or into Camara dos Lobos by going through the tunnel, then along the esplanade - about an hour. The nearest lavada is about 700 metres north (uphill!!) The staff are friendly and helpful and will book trips and walks or call taxis if you want.
