Nice decor etc. but some real disappointments
Very disappointed in the bathroom/toilet. They are arranged in such a way that the toilet is flooded when the shower is used. The flooding is unavoidable due to the proximity of the toilet to the shower. The toilet is basically rendered useless/until the floor is mopped. We had to use our bath towels to clean it up. The TV remote would only work if when held close to the TV. Reception did replace the batteries, but this did not resolve the issue. There was no instruction as to how the air con worked. We had to turn it off because we could not increase the temp. By about 3.00am it was freezing. The restaurant menu leaves a lot to be desired.

Great location! We could hop the train or walk to just about everything. Very friendly staff who acted very fast to resolve any issues we had. They allowed us to check our baggage for free until our room was ready so we could make the most of our first day in Sydney.

The hteol was fabulous as was the staff - 1940s decor, even hard wood nightstands. However, and this was NOT the hotel's fault. lots of construction going on outside, in front of and down the street. It made it hard for Uber pick-up and drop off.

Review: Mixed Experience with Room for Improvement
I recently stayed at this hotel and while I was happy with the service and the quick check-in, the hotel itself is quite old and things didn’t work as expected. The air conditioning had no heating option, and the bathroom had no working exhaust fan. The lifts were also very slow, and we weren’t informed by the front desk that we needed to use our key to access our floor, which was frustrating to figure out on our own. That said, the stay was generally comfortable and the location is great, but it’s not one of the best hotels I’ve stayed at, nor will it be my first choice when visiting downtown again.

Loved the Art Deco vibe, helpful staff, clean amenities. I also love the fact you can open the window, for fresh air instead of using the air-conditioning. Area adjacent to property is being renovated/re built so it is currently a bit noisy. I expect thst will settle as the works are completed. Its certainly not enough to put us off from staying at the Castlereagh again.

I only gave 4 stars for area because of the works going on in Sydney. Not the hotel’s problem. Fit my budget, felt safe.Price was reasonable, with very helpful staff. Convenience and value
We have used Castlereagh Boutique Hotel a number of times now and find it good value overall. The location is very convenient to most attractions in the City and generally walkable with the option of public transport nearby. Don't expect modern touches within the hotel confines but do expect refinement and a touch of an elegant past. We generally arrive much earlier than the published check-in time but really appreciate the ability to leave our bags in safe storage while we start exploring. This hotel is now our "go to" place in Sydney and used by many of our friends and family.
